Is PT, flex time, or school schedule hours done at your firm for a tax CPA? Help

When I accepted my current job as as staff accountant, I was offered a full time job or flex time which I stupidly turned down (they never gave me an actual offer amount.) because I really needed the experience for my AL license. I’ve heard about working moms doing this at larger regional firms and occasionally at mid-size local firms. I’d love to do this or start own business if this doesn’t work.

Please respond if your firm offers flex time, PT or school schedule work and the size of the firm, and usual hours or schedule.

    Thanks!

I am always shocked when a public accountant (audit and/or tax) tells me they dont get flex option. I would quit immediately (without hesitation) if I was required to put in 5 full days during the offseason, after having just put in 70 hour weeks for 4 months of busy season.

I work at a regional firm (6 offices, around 250 people) and they offer “flex” time. It is usually for a more experienced person (manager level) and you take a pay cut due to being an hourly employee. Some people just work during tax season and do small stuff during the off season. So basically you work the same during tax season, but get more time to tend to family later.

Flex time right now is one of the main things attracting me to the tax industry. I am hoping to have the same summer off as my future kids(June-August). Anyone know what months are usually allowed/encouraged for these arrangements?

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"
