IT Auditing and CPA Work Experience Requirement?

    Sup guize,

    I will be working in a Big 4-IT auditing position after graduation, but am somewhat concerned that my experience in this capacity will not fulfill my experience requirements for the CPA license. My state indicates that we must have experience “analyzing or preparing financial statements” and work under a CPA for at least 1 year. Although we do work closely with the audit team for IC purposes, we don’t really work with the F/S directly. In addition, while I know one of my seniors is a CPA, many of my superiors do not have that designation.

    I have e-mailed some people from my state Board and haven’t gotten a response yet, so in the meantime I figured I’d ask your guys’ opinion. I know, I know – you can only tell me so much, I should wait to hear from the Board, etc. But I am impatient. 🙂

    Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you guys so much and have a wonderful day!

    I'm going into IT Audit as well. I know I'm good to go for CPA experience so I assume you are too.

    Are you considering taking the CISA?

    Note: You say your senior is a CPA. Did he change service lines or did he start in IT Audit? If the latter, you have your answer.

    @meatball,

    Awesome! ^_^ Actually, she started out in tax and moved to IT Advisory. I am hoping that her being a CPA is enough, even though she's no longer in an audit-related field. And yes, I am absolutely taking the CISA in a couple years! How about yourself?

    As psychotic as it sounds, I was actually considering taking it right after the CPA exam. I don't come from an IT background, so I figured it would help my work performance early on if I learned more about it beforehand :o.

    I probably won't have the stamina to do it though.

    I am the same way! No IT background for me either, but I love the stuff. Taking the CISA right after CPA would be impressive, but I think taking a year or two off from studying wouldn't hurt!
