Killing time before Becker 2014 is available

Ok, so I’m almost ready to start studying for the CPA. My weapon of choice is Becker, the gold standard, as I’ve been told (and I get a discount through my employer). The problem is the 2014 Becker materials aren’t available until November and I’d rather wait and get those than buy the whole 2013 shebang now.

My question is: If I wanted to start studying for REG now with an inexpensive option until the 2014 Becker is available, which should I get?

Also, to those who are feeling very kind or need to continue procrastinating, I’d really appreciate hearing something in response to the topic six days ago here: https://www.another71.com/cpa-exam-forum/topic/new-candidate-looking-for-feedback.

    Thanks!

Well if it was me, I wouldn't start studying at all. Depending on when you plan on taking the test, starting now might be overkill which would cause you to forget a lot of stuff.

But as far as cheap material, I'd go for Wiley Books and Wiley Test Bank from Jeff.

I bought Wiley Test Bank from Jeff and pretty sure he is the cheapest. Wiley books you can get from Amazon for like $50 a section I think. I wouldn't get a full on course b/c if you are already getting Becker, trust me that's plenty.

It depends on your current situation. If you are working and have a family and your life is already hectic. Then sure delay it if the CPA exams are not in dire need right now. However, if you aren't working, you should not wait three months to start studying. IN those three months you can pass two exams. Wasting all that precious studying time is very bad. Evaluate your own goals. However, like you said, don't put it off just because you're procrastinating. The CPA exams isn't a college term paper. You got to put in a ton of time and effort to pass just one. Good luck!

I would get started now. I just orderd my Becker material, and its possible to mix and match 2013 and 2014 materials. I have received AUD and BEC 2013 material already. FAR and REG will ship when available in November. I would do this and try to get a section out of the way now.

    CPA, Kentucky

    REG- 72, 85(expired), 83 --FINALLY FINISHED
    AUD- 80(expired), 83
    FAR- 86
    BEC- 82

    All with Becker self study

    Thanks for the replies.

My current plan is to take REG and AUD around the same time after busy season. I'll need a lot of time to prepare for REG since I know very little about tax or business law. I work full-time and will have about 3 years of audit experience after busy season. I'm burnt out from studying part-time for 3 years. Although I might be dragging out the CPA exam process this way, at least the long prep time for those 2 exams up front will take a lot of stress off of passing the other 2 later on.

@rjbini2: I'll have to look into the Becker “mix and match,” that might work out well.
