I took FAR yesterday for the first time and I am not really sure what to think. Due to reasons beyond my control I my study experience was fits, starts, whining, confusion, optimism, grief, depression, and finally acceptance. To recap I got my study materials in March and promplty got a nasty sinus infection and the flu. April and May I had work and family commitments that made it impossible to study. Started watching videos in June and working MCQs in June got sick and burnt out for 2 weeks in July. Committed to the exam in August. My practice scores were crap 50-70% and I wanted to quit, but I could not because my NTS expired 10/8/13. Thankfully A71 and my friends were able to prop me up and give me the needed confidence to feel that I had a chance in the exam.

As I former college athlete I understand how preparation and attitude can help a person defeat the toughest of opponents. This exam was the All American, Future #1 Draft pick that people say it is. This exam hit me hard! The important thing for me is I know I hit it back!! I just have to wait for the score release to see how hard. Regardless of the result, my resolve has been strengthend from this experience. Prior to this exam I questioned my ability. After the exam, I know the question if not “if” but “when”

@ Wanna_B_TXCPA2014 – Congrats on taking your first exam! What Study Materials did you use to prepare for the exam? How did the exam questions compare to the study materials that you used? Were you able to get through all of the material before your exam? I take FAR at the end of the month and am a bit behind. Worried that I may not get through all of it before I sit on 10/28.

    AUD - 84 - 7/19/2013
    BEC - 75 - 8/29/2013
    FAR - 81 - 10/28/2013
    REG - 72 - Retake - 85! I'm DONE!!!

@MrsOP75-Hey there, I would like to share a little experience of my FAR test. I took my first try at May. Since I needed to prepare for AUD in the same window, I didn't have enough time to go through all the CPA excel videos before I went. So what I did was to go through as many slides as I can and went through as many WTB questions as I can! Tried to “remember” the answers of my wrong questions. And read Ninja notes….very panic, stressful and frustrated! When I went to the test, I found out I missed whole section of government and NFP so I gave up all the questions in the test. Well, as you can guess, the result wasn't good.

Then, I used almost whole June to go through special accounting activities videos in CPA excel and government and NFP accounting parts. I also bought CPA review for free questions for FAR. Since I had AUD in July, I stopped FAR studying until August. Then I used last three weeks to focus on Government and NFP accounting. To be honest, I didn't feel I was ready but I still went on 31st August for FAR. Then I passed!

Like what I shared with other candidates before, from my experience, if you can prepare the government and NFP accounting pretty well, it is very possible to increase your whole test score. And fortunately, this part is not very hard to get improved. So if you get a chance, please go through Government and NFP basic points and do WTB questions on these two parts. I think it would help!

I do think WTB questions are harder than the actual tests so it would be a little frustrated when you are doing the questions. But don't give up since it would help you prepare well! 🙂

    AUD-73, 73, 73, 79!!
    BEC-77!
    FAR-60, 83!
    REG-66, 72, 75!

    MrsOP75,

I used Yeager videos, Wiley, Book, Wiley Test bank, and Ninja 10pt Combo Lite. I was able to go through all the material before the test.

It seemed that my prep MCQ's were harder than the exam, which frankly causes me some concern. Most of the comments on this site and people that I have spoken with talk about the MCQ's getting harder as the test goes on.

I feel like the Sims killed me! I couldnt remember how to do simple Journal Entries. So I dont know, gotta wait for my score.

I would suggest getting the Ninja material. It helped calm alot of my anxiety bc it lays the material out in more manageable pieces. Also I loved the listening to the audio on my commute, bc all the random thoughts swirling in my head were forced to stop bc I had to concentrate and proceess what Jeff was saying.

Hopefully what Ive mentioned helps. Also I agree with what Shan says prepare the best you can before, pray, then test. You know you can do bc you have two passes already!! Thats awesome. Take a deep, plan your work from now till 10/30, and get ready to PASS!!!!!
