    Hi everyone:

I passed all four exams and applied for my license in Maine.

Today I received a preliminary denial letter from the board indicating it does not seem I have all the required work experience.

I am shocked as my supervisor is a licensed CPA and she signed off the letter. I am not working for a public accounting firm, but I am a financial analyst at a public company and my supervisor is VP of Finance holding an active CPA license.

I thought Maine does not require actual public accounting experience. The verification of experience form has questionnaires:

1.Has applicant had personal experience in the planning of an audit and preparation of audited financial statement in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles?

    2. Has applicant obtained a minimum of 400 hours of experience in audit, review, or compilation procedures?

    3. Has applicant obtained a minimum of 200 hours in at least one of the following: provision of management advisory, financial advisory or consulting services, preparation of tax returns, or the furnishing of advice on tax matters?

My supervisor circled all yes and listed detail of my work which is more analyst roles.

Does Maine require actual public accounting experience? Did any one have a similar case?

The letter indicates I can appeal for a hearing and I am going to appeal, but do I have a chance of getting the license or should I change the state?

I was not an accounting major and have only about 15 accounting credits so I do not have many options in terms of choosing the state.

Any advice will be really appreciated.

    Thank you for reading!!!
