Hi All – just finished Reg and I guess I can join all the people before me that got shredded by the SIMs. I don’t want to get ahead of myself and assume I failed but i left with that feeling. The frustrating thing is at least two of my sims (not including the research) could have been solved if I were more adept at using the IRC.

In the event that I have to retake – does anyone have any tips for wading through the IRC? I feel like AUD and FAR I was able to find what I needed within a minute or two. No exaggeration spent an hour on two Reg SIMs trying to find the section that would just tell me the answer. The questions seemed straight forward. I just blew it.

Besides the SIMs being awful (I’d be surprised if I got more than 2 right) – the rest of the test wasn’t as bad I expected minus the few ultra specific MC I had never seen before.

First off, I hope you passed. I've read some stories of people on here who thought they certainly failed, and wound up passing. If you do have to retake REG, I'd get more comfortable with the IRC by looking up the relevant code for every topic you study. For the tax part, the IRC is the Bible. So, if you're researching depreciation for example, pull up the IRC and find each section that gives you the rules you are studying. If you're learning the rules for a dependent test, look up the IRC that gives those rules. You don' t have to memorize it, but you do have to become more familiar with it. I work in Tax, so I was already more familiar with it than most, but looking at the IRC while I was studying all of the topics really helped me. Good luck!

@Miso_Soup i took REG on Saturday and i felt the same way. Research questions are hard and this was my firs time ever using the IRC.

Looking for pointers as well.
