I desperately need suggestions on studying auditing. First, I tried to read Wiley book and do MCQs, but I retain very less information, so I changed my strategies. I read Jeff’s notes first, then do Ninja MCQs (50% correct rate), read the explanations and reference, if I still don’t understand, I’ll refer to Wiley books. My question is: is this a god approach for studying? I mean I only get the knowledge from the understanding MCQ explanation, and a little bit from the Wiley book. Most of the time, I even don’t know what topic relate to the the question, i just random click an answer and find out after. What else shall I do to get myself ready for the test?

I find AUD extremely boring and I can rarely concentrate while studying. But what I found helped my was typing notes from each chapter, then making my own flashcards. It is time consuming, but it's working. I'm getting 70-80s on MCQs the first time through.

    Passed all sections.

Thanks Kls238, I would like to type notes by myself if I were a fast typer. somehow, I just cannot touch h type like others. I am working full time which makes the time very limit to me.

I finally passed auditing when I actually UNDERSTOOD the practice sims during my prep. Practicing SIMS are my least favorite since they are long and tedious, but when I passed each exam, I scored stronger on my sims (Failed twice with stronger mcqs and weak sims). From my experience when I do well on the SIMS i pass, but when I bomb it I dont.

I didn't understand auditing for the longest time, but I'm glad to report that I eventually figured it out.

By the end of the day, you have to understand the underlying audit structure. If you can talk a person through an entire audit with in-depth detail and can explain some of the main topics (audits vs. reviews vs. compilations, transaction cycles, internal control testing, substantive testing, etc.), then you're in good shape.

Personally, I don't think your method is going to be very effective for AUD (although I think it could be useful for some FAR and BEC topics) because it is so important to comprehend the big picture. Haphazardly trying to piece it together mainly through MCQs seems risky.

Also, writing / typing out notes sucks, but it's a good way to retain information.

Borrow an auditing textbook from a library to make sure you understand the big picture (why things are done, the difference between the compilation and an audit, the difference and the reasoning behind the testing, why independence is important). Then, you can use all the cpa-review stuff to get a deeper understanding. Memorizing it just like you would for half of the FAR rules is not gonna work for AUD.

i'm having trouble with AUD too i noticed my understanding dropped off at the planning and internal control area which is prob the worst thing to not get in every scenario lol

i think the worst thing about AUD is you can get through with a 80%+ with little understanding but can eliminate wrong answer through the choices they give u. But you can't fall back on that strategy. sometimes i didn't even bother comprehending the question, just went straight to mc and found what didn't fit

Having same problem. If only I know a group of people around my area studying for AUD as well it would shave been great to meet up weekly and just review together. Helps everyone.

@Blahh, I agree! I personally know a study group would keep me motivated. After scoring 80s on chapter 1&2, I'm down to 50s for chapter 3. 🙁

    Passed all sections.
