Well I am new here, and new to both the CPA and the accounting profession, I had a previous bachelor’s degree and took some college accounting classes and now I am in trouble, I qualified to take the exam and overwhelmed by the content. I have never worked in accounting before, but I love accounting and the main reason I couldn’t get accounting job because I had no degree in accounting plus no job experience in the US as I just moved to the states 3 years ago. Long story short, am I crazy? I feel like almost all CPA candidates are accountants. I trust my guts but the fact that I am going for one of the most difficult as I heard exams with no job experience made me question my choice, of course I will know it in just a month when I set for FAR, but meanwhile my confidence is jumping up and mostly down! I feel like there are not enough MCQ’s in becker and of course they charge more for that. Any idea where I can get affordable MCQ’s I really like to do them and it is my best way to understand the material! thanks in advance and any opinion is welcome!

Hey, if know bright people that passed the test without any experience, but they were studying for an accounting degree.

Can you do it? I think that anyone can… is work experience needed. Absolutely not. Would it help in the Audit section, probably yes.

Some people say that you can pass if you have some logic in your head and some good accounting knowledge; the knowledge comes from textbooks- Solid understanding of accounting, review courses could help too.

Of course experience might help, but if would say that it’s more of – Did you take accounting 101, 102, Intermediate 1 & 2. Managerial accounting course…

And yes Of course you need to take at least one or two Tax courses or just understand it from the review course.

Good Luck, don’t chicken out of it.

Oh btw, there are MORE THAN ENOUGH Multiple choice questions in Becker! But the important thing is not multiple choice questions, its understanding the material. Yes, questions might help you know your weakness areas.

    No signature needed.

Passed And got my license too ..

I believe Becker also is enough to pass these exams. I wouldn't worry about additional text books, because you don't want to spend to much time going through extra material. I have no tax experience and what has helped me with REG is simply looking up topics, that Becker just outlines, on the web. I have been out of school for about 8 years and I believe all of these exams can be passed with the review materials.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

If you took some college accounting courses, especially Intermediate 1 and 2, you are ready to take on the exam. I was scared, nervous and overwhelmed when i first started studying for my 1st exam which was FAR, but I had to learn to be mentally strong and just keep pushing. As for the experience, I do some accounting, which helped a little with FAR but the classes i took at a JC after college were more valuable than my work experience. I have no experience in Audit or

tax but Becker really does a great job overall. If you feel like you need to do more MCQs, try Wiley test bank but Becker definitely has enough MCQs.

You just have to be prepared that your life will be upside down for the duration of the exam and expect to put in a lot of time and effort. I believe if you do that you shouldn't have no problem passing. At the end of the day it's just an exam that many have passed and so can you!

Thank you guys for your input and encouragement. I did take enough accounnting classes and FAR is my best area of the exam, Auditing is the real problem for me, but I won't worrry about it for now. I took financial and manageerial accting, cost accounting and intermediate accouting, tax, payroll, auditing. all these calsses were in college, and I did very well, but it is college. I have plenty of time to study as I work only part time 3 to 4 days a week, so, yeah I am puting everything aside until I pass this exam. good luck to you all

@karri2008, i thought AUD was actually the “easiest” section of the exams so far especially if you are comfortable with financial accounting so i wouldn't worry too much about it. I can't say the same about BEC though.

For what it is worth – I am 42 and not an accounting student and I just passed the exam. There is no question that you can do it
