Has anyone ever taken a night exam? I am currently scheduled to take REG on 5/31 at 6:30 pm as there are no other appointments available. I have taken my last 3 exams at 8am, so this is a major change.

For anyone that has taken a night exam, is it that different? What do you do during the day?

I haven't taken any exams yet, but my first one..AUD…is scheduled in two weeks at 5 pm. For myself, I am a night owl, and I get the added bonus of receiving the day off from work, paid, to take the exam, so I can stay up the night before into the wee hours cramming every little bit of knowledge into my brain.

I do not see why the exam would be any different. Certainly a different type of testing crowd I am sure, with a lot of college students taking tests such as MCAT/GMAT and the like. During the day I am probably going to sleep until 1, then get up and sit on the computer for an hour or so, get a bite to eat and take a shower, and then hit the mcqs for maybe 45 mins right before i leave for the testing center just to get my brain focused in on the task at hand

    AUD-Failed (Waiting for Score)
    BEC-PASSED (First try)
    REG-Failed (Retake February 2013)
    FAR-Failed (Retake January 2013)

Interested to see the responses to this topic. I think the standard is to take them in the a.m. However a friend of mine implored me to not take them at the early slot, but to take the noon slot. An afternoon slot might make for a more relaxed exam experience. And there's no doubt about it, I'm taking at least 2 days of vacation or sick leave prior to my exam day!

    @jpyoung10:

My second attempt for AUD was at 6pm on a very rainy day in November. The stress of waiting for the exam all day made me so tired that by the time I was in the middle of MCQs I wanted to quit. I failed with 71 and I promised myself “never again to take any exam after 2pm”.

However, don't be discouraged by my experience. What didnt work for me, might work for you.. take a day off from work, wake up late, then do a few hour review, eat a nice lunch, and relax before taking the exam. Good luck!

I would love to take an exam that late! I am not an early morning person at all and unfortunately my Prometric center onyl has 8am tests UGHHHHH! So end waking up at like 5am on test days. I would say consider yourself lucky and take it at the later time

My first CPA exam ever was an after noon exam. I had so much anxiety already, it being my first exam, that the late exam nearly killed me!! By the time I had to sit for the exam I thought my heart was going to explode. I swore that I would only take morning exams from there on out. A morning exam, even if you're not a morning person, only allows you time to shower, eat, and drive, it doesn't give you hours on end to mentally freak yourself out, haha. So, the next EIGHT exams I took were in the morning.. I just took my last (and final exam?? =D ) at 1:30 because that was the only time available, because I'm a regular at prometric now, the later exam didn't kill me that time. I've also read your mind is more sharp in the morning. I'm pro morning exam for sure!

    AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
    FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
    BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58

The biggest thing for me when scheduling these tests, was to schedule it at times that would allow me to follow my normal daily schedule. This is why I scheduled all of mine for the 1:30 time slot. Between 6:30 and 10 is when I usually am winding down my day, and it would be kind of a shock to the system to have to take such a stressful exam during those hours.

I am still looking to get it moved. I forgot to mention before that I would actually be testing in a different Prometric than normal as well. So on top of the exam being at night, I would be driving an hour and a half to and from the exam.

I have been checking the Prometric site twice a day hoping something will open up, but nothing yet.

I think everyone is different. For me, I know I have the most energy early in the mornings so I took two of my exams at 8am and the other two at 1pm and 3pm which were not by choice.

The 1pm was okay. The 3pm was tiring. By the time I was done it was around 6pm and I was tired.

I still prefer 8am exams, but that's just me.

I studied a little during the mornings of the exams that I took in the afternoon. I have to say I felt better going into the exam knowing I studied a little in the morning instead of waking up and sitting for the exam by 8am.

I think the appointment times depends upon the hours of the Prometric location. I have seen 5 p.m. appointments for Audit but I use public transporation to get home and refuse to take a 4 hour test that doesn't start until 5 p.m.! I have talked to co-workers who have taken sections at the same Prometric location and the 8 a.m. time slots are the least crazy. I used to take my exams in the afternoon but the last two times I had an appointment at 12:30 p.m., I didn't get to my seat until after 1, even though I showed up and signed in well before noon. (Beforehand I'm trying to remember my mnemonics in the waiting room and the guy standing next to me is trying to make conversation and all I wanted to do is tell him to shut up so I can concentrate. It was a nightmare!) I'll gladly sacrifice a little sleep for a less stressful waiting room.

    I passed in 2012!

    BEC - PASSED - I'M DONE!!!
    AUD - PASSED (finally!!)
REG - PASSED (Twice - lost credit first time)
    FAR - PASSED!

I have only taken Reg and I had a 6pm time slot. I liked it because I had the entire day to go over my weaker areas. My brain functions better later in the day….

But I passed and have scheduled my next exam at 6pm too. This time, right after work… so i won't have the luxury of extra study time.

I agree- it really depends on whether you are a morning person. All my exams are scheduled for 5pm with the exception of BEC which is at 3:30. One of my CMA tests was at 8am and I just don't function that well in the mornings. If it weren't for my good friends adderall and 5 hour energy I would have fallen asleep right then and there.

I checked Prometric this morning and was able to get the test moved back to my regular testing center at 11:30 on 5/31. Feeling much better about that time than the night exam.
