I recently passed the NY CPA exam. I have the 150 credit hours and I need 1 yr CPA firm experience. I am an experienced accountant with over 4 years of private accounting experience and also I am a Certified Quickbooks User. I am looking for work at a CPA firm (35-40 hrs/week) in order to get the 1 year qualifying work experience while working at my other job on the evenings and weekends. I am very flexible in terms of compensation. Does anyone think it is feasible? If yes, what is the best way to go about it? I was thinking of posting ads on craiglist.

    Thanks.

If you can handle 40 hrs/wk at a CPA firm while continuing the other job, then it may be possible, and I would advise you check primarily with smaller CPA firms. I would think the 35-end would be more rare, at least through busy season. You might get lucky, though, and find someone who would be interested in something like 20 hours/week in off season and 35-40 during busy season, which would take longer to complete the hours but might be the perfect fit for a small firm.

I doubt large firms would be very flexible with something like this, though.

    Wait, what?

Why are you trying to find a second job? You don't need to go work at a CPA firm or public accounting. Either in a current job or in a new job (in private industry), you just need to directly report to a manager who is actively licensed in NY State for one year. That experience will fulfill your work experience requirement
