I don't like fax machines and fax machines don't like me.

No heat all weekend because the client was closed for a Monday holiday so they shut the heat off at 6pm Friday and didn't turn it on until Tuesday morning. We still had to work on site Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

And there were no janitors in the building so that's a lot of OT meals trash and baskets didn't get emptied between 6pm Friday and 6pm Tuesday.

    1. Client that owns a convenience store brings in his paperwork in 12 massive storage boxes full of every receipt and cash register tape (all I needed are the bank statements and check stubs) and they all smell like stale fried chicken.

    2. Client that owns a bar brings in her paperwork in three Wal-Mart sacks (there are no bank statements anywhere) and they all smell like stale cigarette smoke and cheap beer because someone obviously spilled something on them!

    3. Client brings in CD with Quickbooks file on 3/14. The file is last years! Can you say EXTENSION?

I once got back up for a loan on a piece of scrap paper that contained doodles, recipes and was in an actual ball when given to me and had to be flattened out….

The printer ALWAYS died on April 12 or 13th. ALWAYS.

Also, an elderly client brought in a shoe box FULL of receipts as her backup documentation for her personal and sole prop. taxes. I had the unfortunate experience to find the results of her annual pap smear included in the box.

The firm I worked for was in the ‘hood…a few blocks from where an HBO documentary was filmed about dangerous streets in America.

Anyway – when I was the last person in the building at night, I would have to hold the door open with my leg (it locked behind me) and peer out into the alley like I was in the starting blocks for a track race or something.

    Look left.

    Look right.

    Clear.

    GO!!!!!!

Client walked in with a handkerchief to her face, pouring blood from her nose, said, ‘I thought it would stop, maybe I better go home…' I am terrified of blood and almost vomited in front of her. She ended up in urgent care, but returned later for her appointment. The partner thought it was hilarious.

One of my clients walked in with an employee who started beeping.

“Oh – he just needs to go outside for a second…satellite lost track of him”

He had a court tracking bracelet around his ankle.

He also farted in my office (on purpose) – they thought it was hilarious.

Another client of mine was the only person to ever benefit from a Refund Anticipation Loan. I had to go to the county jail and have him sign his tax return so he could use the RAL as bail money.

    @CMaxwell, yuck, geez!

That's why I always insisted (but nobody listened) to wearing gloves while sorting all types of crap clients brought in. One time, a fellow came with a spouse and brought nothing less nothing more, a filthy black garbage bag with all their receipts including personal stuff related to various medical procedures, hospitalizations for “accidents” and so on. I shudder recalling reading their “documentation” and not to scream from disgust both physical and mental! Partners just laughed their bellies off, and kept insisting on telling me about another client from earlier years. Maybe it was a weird streak that particular week b/c we had folks turning in a LOT of unrelated stuff and plain downright private.

Blood and farts, yeah, I'm gonna shut up about the smell of stale chicken and cigarette smoke! Y'all got me beat hands down! If someone started bleeding in front of me, I'd hurl in the trash can. As for the farts, I'm not above spraying someone with Lysol or Febreeze! I've been known to do that.

I'd send all of the above to HR Block. I couldn't be happier with the fact that our clients books are done in-house.

No gross-out story here, but anyone else having the strangest tax/audit season of their career??
