I was looking around #howshouldweaccountforme and found one that was something like “When HR tells you that a member of the engagement team is not comfortable with swearing in the audit room: ‘That’s [BS]’.”

So it made me curious…is swearing allowed in your office? Are you public, private, or government? And…are you comfortable with it yourself outside of work?

My last workplace (public) was all goody-two-shoes Christian, so I kept my mouth shut there. 😉 My new workplace (private) seems like it will be too professional to allow it, but we’ll see (I start Monday). Myself, I figure words are words, so at home, I’ll use them and have no problem with people using them around me. 😛

Where I used to work (small company-4 employees) I heard all three of them cuss. I don't cuss, never have but it doesn't bother me unless they say two certain words. I would think it would be unprofessional but I don't know since ive only had the one job.

I swear like a drunken sailor — in front of the right audience. When my boss and I are behind closed doors the F word is liberally used as a noun, verb, adverb and adjective in pretty much every sentence. In front of the “wrong” audience, my language is as clean as a nun's habit.

That being said, I was once driven to a (very very VERY rare) moment of utter fury by an affiliated entity at a previous firm. (Think large investment bank.) The phrase “Those a$$holes in LA can suck my left t!t” rang throughout the floor. My then boss, who sat about 20 feet from me, was not only unphased, she offered to hold my top up for the event. She didn't like the LA'ers either, LOL.

I work at Big4, plenty of swearing. I try not to offend anyone, like I know some of the goody-two-shoes type staff don't swear so I'll try to swear less around them, and with higher ups, I'll try to keep my swearing on par with theirs LOL.

To each his own…I don't consider myself goody two-shoes but I don't like to hear cursing. I don't see the need for it in a professional atmosphere. With that said…sometimes the F word is the only one that will work! =)

ETA: I have noticed that this is a generational thing. Folks my age, 40s to 50s don't curse as much as the younger kids. Not judging..just saying…
