Overall Pass Rate?

Over the past couple of years, I have been wondering what the actual pass rate is for the exam for people who sit for at least one exam. I have come across people who have sat for the exam over 15 times (God bless them), and were not willing to give up until they got it done.

What do you guys think the % is for people who sit for the exam to actual follow through and nail down all 4 before giving up due to repetitive failing scores.

I attended a presentation in college just over a year and a half ago. If I remember correctly, the presenters were from my state's CPA society. They told us that more than 90% of people who keep trying at the exam will eventually pass.

Not sure where they got the number from or what data they had to back it up.But if it's accurate, then it's encouraging to say the least.

    B - 79 PASSED (1/4 there!)
    A - 77 PASSED (1/2 there!)
    F - 79 PASSED (3/4 there!)
    R - 83 PASSED (DONE!!!!!!)

    Yes, I believe it.

There was some score report that was floating around these parts for BEC's pass rates (maybe just for a quarter?). Anyways, it said that 1st time pass rate was ~ 55%, and repeating candidate pass rate was ~45%. If you keep on trying & working hard at it, you'll likely pass eventually.

Also, if you are fresh out of school, don't have to work full-time while studying, don't have a family, have a good review course, and/or don't take it last minute without studying adequately (oftentimes people take it due to looming NTS expiration, or deadlines) I think your odds improve dramatically, as plenty of people dealing with some or all of those obstacles pass the exam every window. I tip my hat to them.

Whenever I start to feel bad for myself, I think of those people, and realize that I'm not trying hard enough, I don't deserve a pity party, and I need to get at it. Passing the CPA is very doable, you just have to want it hard enough.

    REG - Passed!!
    BEC - Passed
    FAR - Passed
    AUD - Passed

@onmywaytocpa – Those numbers are definitely encouraging to those taking the exam now! I believe it as well, especially after reading the multiple success stories on A71.

@whatdidyou- I agree. I was very fortunate and able to knockout my CPA while obtaining my MBA. I was 23 @ the time and living with my parents. I worked so hard, especially knowing I had an advantage and didn't want to waste my opportunity. I don't know how people w/ full time jobs, kids, and going to school can possibly do it! It is amazing and very inspiring

If you don't give up you really can't fail.

I passed each section on my first try and really don't think I could have done that in my early 20's when my focus was much more geared towards drinking, drugs and boys. On one hand I think I should have knocked it out years ago but on the other I recognize the value of tackling this as a “grown up”. I guess there aren't statistics that break out pass rates by age, but my guess is that the older candidates to a bit better.

Woah, awesome. You're badass, passing the exam with high scores and partying like that.

I saw it a lot on campus at parties and such. Can't say I've tried it or ever will though.
