I have a pending job offer from a CPA firm I am very seriously considering. They have given me two weeks to decide. I’ll be vacationing the next full week without much internet access (have had this planned for many months). Late in the week following my vacation I have a number of 2nd/3rd/final interviews with firms I am also interested in. I am hesitant to accept the first offer I’ve received without fully exploring my other options. Also, I don’t want to extend the decision period such that the offer might be rescinded (say, they hire another person instead).
What I would like to do would extend my offer period for the first position in the most professional manner. I would appreciate any advice/input in regards to the following questions: What period of time have you been given in the past to decide on a job offer in public accounting? Have you asked to extend this period, and if so, how?
Ultimately, I would like to have at least 3 to 4 weeks to decide, which, from my research, seems on the upper end of the bell curve. Thank you in advance for your reply.
