People who think they can pass like it's nothing

Maybe these are the rantings of an old man, but there are a few threads that go something like this: so and so guy passed all four in two months so I can too. Or: I just got an A in xxx, so I can pass xxx without studying.

Well the fallacy is that one thing doesn’t necessarily influence the other. One guy on my high school track team made the NFL, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to make it. In fact, no other athlete went to my school.

Also, the cpa exam is nothing like college. College is designed so you pass. The cpa exam is designed so you fail. It has a 55% failure rate.

But still, it’s a free country. If you want to spend your money putting all 4 exams on one NTS, oh well …

I love the people who underestimate this test. They're part of the reason I passed. If I study 200 hours and you study 60, I like my chances against yours.

Tip # 105,000,000 passing the cpa exam can be a tall order for even the smartest of accounting majors.

Just face it no matter what you can't cheat the process you have to use an ample amount of time when studying.

I remember a while back where someone posted on the internet thinking that because he was so good in “Call of Duty,” this guy thought it was going to be a cake walk in military.

Internet 101: when people ask your opinion they don't actually want your opinion, they only want validation of their thoughts. I'm more amused by the people who are shocked jobs don't fall from the sky after the exams.

    1. trolls
    2. @mla11692 – YES!
    3. maybe they can, great for them. but i'm guessing anyone who can do that probably isn't wasting time on this forum looking for validation from strangers and then getting upset when someone tries to lay out a more realistic plan/goal.

haha I really dislike those people who can pass all in one window…..or on a first try for that matter 🙁 makes me sad but I guess if you do nothing but study and don't have a job maybe it's possible.

Track, I stopped taking alot of those posts at face value. Some are trolling, some don't know they just got lucky. They can't truly grade on a curve or you'd have all those people who do nothing but study (i.e., no job, no classes) skewing the results.

@Nancy, if someone says that (all four, one window) I'd be very skeptical of that. Not saying it can't happen, but …

    @Save – ditto 🙂

i guess everyone studies differently. i admire and sort of envy the people who can do all 4 in one period. not enough to take time from my studying and start a thread complaining about it tho.

If you are really good at school it is easy and natural to underestimate the exam. That being said, I have also seen a lot of those same people on here realizing that it is harder than they thought once they start studying. If someone thinks they can do it they will know for sure after there first couple study sessions of FAR! The exam is very self correcting in this way.

Almost always from my phone... please excuse my typos!

I don't think this is about the very VERY few people who are able to pass all four in the same window. I think we all agree that's a tremendous brag-worthy accomplishment. I think this is more about the extreme newbie who hasn't even started studying yet and comes here asking for advice but dismisses anything other than “sure anything's possible” from those who've been around a while. If you've already got all the answers, but pose the question anyway you're looking for something other than advice.
