I may have an phone interview with Manager at PWC for tax position. I prefer to do audit rather than tax.

I got a referral from my friend, they suggest me to apply for tax position. I don’t have experience with tax and just have internship for 3 months for audit. I have Master degree in finance but it’s from private school. I also passed CPA exam and received a license last month.

How should I prepare myself ? What questions should i expect ?

Yikes. You really need to sort out your trajectory.

Do you want to do tax?

With the Big4, its not an easy transition from one service line to another, and even if you made the switch at some point you basically reset your career (that is, a 2nd or 3rd year tax associate, is not a 2nd or 3rd year audit associate, very different skill sets).

You can search the forum around interview questions, but you need to figure tax or audit.

One of the first things they are going to ask you is why you want to be in tax … You have to be able to sell yourself. I wouldn't look at it as a “foot in the door” type situation. If you go into tax now you will have a hard time getting into audit later.

If you choose to go through with the interview, choose 3 aspects of the tax (or better yet from the job description) field that you feel relate with your own core values. you can also try to focus on how your background aligns with PWCs core values.

The initial recruiting interview is usually looking for personality/ culture fit.

    Good luck!
