HR block and other tax franchises will hire anybody who knows how to use a computer and can pass a simple IRS test, yet private firms wont even consider you despite passing Reg exam (accounting degree and all 4 parts passed). Does education really not mean anything nowadays…

In my next life I’m going to Trade School…

I am guessing you have no work Experience and that is why is hard to find a company that would hire you?

When starting out most of us have had this road block but its just a bump in the road.

Stay positive and keep applying, someone will hire you. Maybe you can look for a contract Job at a small firm, it will help you get the experience you need and that will then help you get a job at a company because with that you have some work experience.

To answer your question, no. Education doesn't mean much until it is paired with good experience. But, you need experience to make your education worthwhile. Sort of a chicken and egg problem early in your career.

It's not easy, but you'll get there. I think it's mostly a competitive job market that is doing us the injustice. We are all making less, working harder, etc, than we were 10 years ago (not just accountants).

Early in your career, experience matters more than education. Later in your career, you need experience to justify a promotion but they won't let it happen without the right credentials (CPA, Masters, MBA, etc).

@ken2013, I agree with you. Nowadays they don't appreciate education and I feel that I have wasted my time for studying for by bachelor's degree in Accounting and Commerce, LONDON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY – DIPLOMA IN MANAGERIAL PRINCIPLES, ACCA from UK, Master of Accounting and Financial Management from U.S and now doing cpa exam and passed one subject – BEC. But they only want experience. How can we have experience if we are not given opportunity to work. So I think in our next life, we should not study and start working without proper education.

Beth — OMG welcome to my HELL…..

I have the ACCA too and I also have the CGA from Canada…. and now I have to do CPA…. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH !!!!

I feel like I have been studying for the past Decade non stop..

ACCA was hard esp when Advanced Tax was compulsory and only 8 people out of class of 40 passed that exam the first time. Lucky I was one of the 8.

I think all the exams have their own level of difficulty in their own unique way.
