Yes REG is a pain in the rear end but I think if you look at it as and interesting subject it may make learning it better.

What areas in REG is giving you grief ?

Individual tax gave me grief because of all the thresholds, but I've moved on. For me, it is just because I've never liked tax or business law and I feel rushed for this exam because my NTS is expiring on 07/20. I've always taken 3 months to study for an exam and I'm a little panicky at only having 6 weeks. I'll get over the hump. FAR started out this way for me too and I got through that. I had to take a quick out of town trip for my nephew's high school graduation so I'm not going to be able to study too much for the next few days. And wouldn't you know it that I forgot to grab the REG Audio out of my car when my parents switched cars with me so I had a 6.5 hour drive without my audio. 6.5 hours with no kids and no audio. The odds are not in my favor on this exam. šŸ™

Mamabear, ask Jeff to email you the link for the audio… I'm sure he won't mind since there are free updates. Just a thought…

You know my advice is right now – don't get too hung up on thresholds – Just now focus on understanding where everything goes.

Meaning focus on what goes into Gross Income

What makes up the Adjustments to come to AGI

    then focus on your deductions.

If you understand the flow of where specific items fall it will make your life much easier.

Do the same thing when you hit Corps and Partnerships. Always draw out the outline of how the tax form flow.. Not in Details just a over view.

Once you have that locked down, then start putting the fillers and more details. Then add on the thresholds etc.

So what I am trying to say is for REG you need to take a step back to see the big picture before you start focusing on the minor details. If you start looking at all the minor details straight away you may miss on understanding the bigger picture.

I have been following your advice. Estate/Gift/Trust tax was bad at all and I'm not going to focus on the thresholds as much. It was just daunting to be my first chapter.

@teetee–I have the link and will listen to some later from my computer. I just wanted those 6.5 hours in the car and of course I have no IPod, IPad, I-anything so I needed my discs. šŸ™‚

My favorite area was Individual tax and partnerships. Corp tax too me a while grasp. Estates/Gift/Trusts weren't so bad.

You can do it. One step at a time šŸ˜€

Just wanted to ask peoples advice on here…I've been seriously considering postponing my exam by a week (or maybe more), and I feel like a week is a significant amount of time. I was trying to figure out how to break down all my days of studying…obviously 60%+ on taxation, which would be roughly a month. But if I do that I'll only have 3 weeks for the rest of the material. Is that enough? Is a month for the rest even enough? I have always had a schedule to stick to with these exams…but it seems to not be working for me as of yet. It always seems like I'm in a rush to get through the material. (Which is probably why I've bombed my first two exams) Reading peoples posts here makes me think that maybe I oughta invest in the Ninja Audio and Notes? I don't know…it's just all so overwhelming. At least Roger's text for Regulation is worlds better than my text book I had in school.

    @ShutterBug84x

First, what is your scheduled exam date? Second, are you currently working or have other responsibilities? I am asking because if you do not have anything else on your plate, then a month to study for REG is plenty of time. I currently do not have any other obligations and I studied for REG for about 2.5 weeks.

My advice, though, is to heavily study taxation. I only had a handful of B-Law questions on the exam and most of them covered basic concepts. So I do think studying for law for 3 weeks is a bit excessive.

As for NINJA material, that is up to you. I did not need any supplemental material. I am using Becker and I love it! However, everybody has strengths and weaknesses. So if you feel it may help you, then definitely get it.

    Hey Guys,

Just wanted to post, and let you know that I began my journey last week with REG. 21 years young and was able to get my 150 done in 4 years. I'm fortunate enough to use Becker thanks to my employer's financial support, and I don't start until October. Looking to pass all four prior to my start date.

I'm finishing up Estates and Trusts, and I definitely enjoy Partnerships and Individual more so than I do Corporation.

I watch the online lectures, review topic while taking notes, work homework MC until all are correct and then move on to next topic/chapter. I will go through the Sims, Reviews and Practice Exams in the 10+ days I'll have to review when my class ends the 22nd of June.

I also study between 10 AM – 6 PM and work out at night. My life is basic as hell.

@Broke4Life: Thanks for your input. My scheduled date is July 31 at this point. And I'm working 3-3.5 days a week, 2 at a minimum, my boss is very supportive with being flexible. So I have 4 full days off a week, but often have things to catch up on around the house (cleaning, laundry, and stuff like that). I just worry because I've had 2 months on my other exams and have failed miserably. So that's why I was considering the NINJA products. Also want to try a different means of trying to organize myself in terms of actually getting a firmer grasp on the material. I honestly feel like I've cried enough over these exams and really want to crush this one and I'm just completely unsure of the most effective way to go about that without wasting too much time.

Also, relieved that I took Business Law in the Fall of 2013 since I had needed extra business units to qualify for the exam. So at least I've put some pre-Exam effort into that subject. It's super boring to read but I had actually had a lot of fun trying to analyze case studies – and somehow ended up with a solid A in the course.

@ nick I think Becker has pretty good flashcards so you could roll through them at work. It's only 100 bucks for all the sections for the mobile/computer version. I like them so far, makes you actually know the information instead going through process of elimination on MCQ.

Eliasm6, I would totally purchase them, but I don't start work until October!

I'm a huge proponent of hand writing material covered in lectures and homework problems.

I have plenty of time to study–nothing but friends and alcohol on the weekend to distract me.

Also just looking at the number of simulations on the test is 6 and im assuming there is 1 pretest. So 5 simulations for 40% so i think i'm gonna place more of an emphasis on SIMs in REG just because if you get some boxes wrong then that's gonna be more points off than in SIMs for AUD or FAR.
