Regret reentering public accounting

So I recently moved to a new city. I decided to reenter the field of public accounting for two reasons: (1) I thought I missed it (2) There were quite a few opportunities in the new city.

Well when I first got here in June I was hired on at a firm. After being there for a week, I explained to them that I was in over my head (they hired me as a senior) and had forgotten a lot of tax stuff. We decided it would be best for me to find other employment as they had no need for lower level staff at the firm.

In July, I take a job with a new firm as a staff accountant and now am completely regretting it. It is back to constantly billing time, stressing all the time, deadlines and just plain I hate public accounting.

I am contemplating leaving the new firm but think it will look really bad. There is a company in the area with a position similar to my old one that is interested in hiring me. The only problem is they are a client of the firm I am working at now. I don’t want to burn bridges but I really think I made a huge mistake reentering public.

Any suggestions on what I should do. Also important to note that this is a relatively small area and my current firm is VERY active in networking.
