How important is it to go thru the textbook on your own if you’re still hammering out MCQ? I’m trying that and I feel like it takes FOREVER, probably because I’m a slow reader. Just wondering if anyone else feels the same

    BEC 76 (2/15)
    REG 81 (4/15)
    AUD 78 (5/15)
    FAR 81 (7/15)

I usually go thru the book, not extremely detailed, but enough to have a good understanding of what the chapter is about. Then, I use it again when working thru MCQs. For theory problems, if I really don't the answer, I kinda guess and then go right away and read the book on that subject. For work problems, I look for examples that are similar in the book to help me solve the problems first before looking at the solution. I think it also depends on how comfortable you are with the material and also remember you will never know all the tiny little details, so don't get hung up on them when reading. Use the book as little or as much as you need it, we all learn differently!

I'm using CPAexcel, so this works well the the bite size lesson structure. My process is the read the text, then immediately do the review questions.

But, after I am read the section rarely do I go back to the book because when I get a question incorrect there typically is an explanation (at least NINJA MCQ does).

If I'm really having a hard time grasping the concept I go back and find it in the book, watch the lecture, or even jump on A71 because someone has probably asked about it before.

    FAR - 91
    REG - 88
    AUD - 98
    BEC - 88

It depends person to person, as most things. I figured out what study method works best for me after my first exam and have not read a single page of a textbook (except when skimming the Becker lectures) and have scored in the 90s on FAR and AUD. I have learned best from practicing the MCQs while “LEARNING” the formulas, journal entries and why answer options to questions are correct or incorrect. A combination of Becker and Ninja MCQs has been perfect for ME.

I focused on MCQs and only referred to the book for areas I was having difficulty with. I had no interest in sitting down and reading the book.

OKCpa I have Wiley also…I found for FAR once I got through all of the material I very very rarely went back to Wiley. Maybe to look at some flash cards. I used Ninja MCQ every day.
