Resources for Staying Current After Passing the CPA

Does anyone know of a really good magazine for staying current in the information that was covered in the CPA exams?

I currently work as an auditor for the federal government (Dept. of Defense), so I do not have any exposure to GAAP or tax code. I would like to subscribe to a few magazines and would love some recommendations.

I don’t want to be one of those “Can’t Pass Again” CPAs, and I also want to stay current just in case I ever want to try to switch over to a more traditional industry (even though I currently am very satisfied with my job – I sometimes fear that the Fed Govt may choose to downsize our agency even more than it has over the last couple of years).

    Thank you for any suggestions!

Just wanted to say…this is a great thread and I hope someone has some good suggestions! 🙂 I feel like after graduating and taking the CPA exams, all that I know about is my job, and I am losing touch with all the rest of the accounting and business world. I've recently subscribed to Forbes magazine (had the opportunity to get a magazine subscription for free and picked that one) because I've found many of their online articles insightful, but don't read them regularly enough to know if all of their articles are good and have no clue if the print version is at all similar to the online one, but I thought it was worth a try to keep abreast of the business world. (Wall Street Journal would be the best way to keep up with business, but I know myself well enough to know that it's too much information and I'd never get through it all!) However, I don't know what resources are really good in the accounting world, and would like to hear some recommendations. 🙂

I'm not sure of any magazines but the purpose of the CPE units is to stay current with the accounting world. Probably more beneficial to seek out seminars, classes, etc that you'll also get credits for than just reading a publication. I use CPEthink.com, something like $300 for 2 years of unlimited credits in a huge range of topics that are always being updated.
