I am working on my resume. I want to emphasize my college degree and CPA designation since my work experience isn’t that great.

Is it okay to list education before job experience on my resume?

Also, since my application is pending with the state board, how do I put that on my resume…

    “CPA, awaiting certification from state”

From the resumes I've seen, education has always been first. But after a certain period, it's just not emphasized. Like before I used to list all the awards/scholarships, my GPA, my minor, etc etc. Now I just list my university, degree, and years of attendance.

I'm not listing my GPA or anything like that. I'm not sure I even want to use the year, since it can give them a clue about my age. Although I guess they would find that out eventually anyway…

I wish I had someone who could critique my resume without paying a small fortune.

I like looking at linkedin profiles of people working in similar positions xD I borrow ideas on how to pimp up what I do and make it sound more sophisticated than what it actually is.

I left out my graduation dates as well when I was looking for a job. I think I had one place that the VP asked me when I graduated. Also, even after 7 years of working I have my education and CPA candidate information at the top. I did a mock interview and had my resume critiqued by a guy that was doing a podcast called the beancounter. He was really good. Gave me pointers on answering questions, how to look for jobs, and also my resume. He recorded my mock interview and afterwards he gave me feedback. It was free a year ago. It might be worth looking into.

Can you not go back to your school's career placement office? Maybe even Alumni services?
