When I took BEC I memorized pages of formulas and I’m wondering if I should do the same for FAR…

For those that have passed FAR, did you memorize formulas or Journal entries before taking the exam? If you did, was it helpful? If you didn’t, did you wish you had?

    REG -73 (8/2015) 81 (10/2015)
    AUD - 73 (11/2015) 84 (1/2016)
    BEC - 84 (2/2016)
    FAR - 77 (6/2016)

I remember BEC being very formula-memorization intensive. I did not take the same approach with FAR. FAR is different in that I feel like if you understand the concepts and how things flow, you don't really need to memorize any journal entries. I definitely practiced journal entries for several things, like treasury stock, consolidation entries, and others, but I feel like it was less about memorization and more about “Okay, it makes sense to do this because…” That way I could apply it to whatever situation they gave me on the test. I focused more on reviewing all of the chapters and making sure I was familiar with all the topics.

Looking back on it, I feel like my approach worked out for me. I don't know that it's the best for everyone, but I was somehow able to work through most of the items on my test, even though I definitely had a few questions where I blanked and couldn't remember anything about the topic even though I had practiced it a lot. FAR just has so much information that's it's overwhelming sometimes. But you can do it! I wish you luck on your test!

    REG - 86 (4/11/15)
    BEC - 92 (5/29/15)
    AUD - 99 (7/23/15)
    FAR - 89 (11/23/15) It's over!!!

I agree with this for the most part but have to say there are some entries that I wish I had memorized such as the governmental entries– but I think this may just be a function of not taking a governmental class and it being completely foreign to me. Definitely know your JE's because they will help you with understanding the flow of things. I don't think the formulas were really that necessary with the exception of the financial ratios if you don't already know them/ have them memorized.

And they ask me why I drink

    BEC 71, 82
    AUD 75
    REG 75
    FAR 61, 69, 83

and they ask me why I drink...

FAR- 61-next time I'll ask for lube instead of a calculator
REG-75- Never been so happy to see such a low grade
    BEC- 8/11
    AUD- 9/2
