Has anyone passed with studying less per week/ like 10-15 hours and giving them like 4 months + for studying?

    I wouldn't recommend it.

First off, due to the size and frequency of testing windows, you cannot do exactly 4 months between exams. Eventually, you will have to do 5 months and skip an entire window. This will limit your potential retests.

Second, how well do you think you'll retain the information you reviewed at the beginning of the 4 months by the end of it?

At the very least, you should take 1 exam per window (every 3 months).

I tried the slow study strategy for REG.

I studied about 10 hours a week between October and mid-December and then reviewed from mid-December until exam day (January 2nd). I found that when I started to review, I had to pretty much start over with a lot of the early material.

You can do it, just make sure you have plenty of time for review at the end.

I'm doing slow study for FAR (15 weeks of study), then 7-12 weeks on each of the other parts. The reason I'm taking so long for FAR is because it has the most material and is the hardest according to most. I also don't want to spend more than 15 hours a week of active studying with working full time and trying to keep some semblance of a life. I just started studying, so I can't comment on how well it's working. But, I think it can work, if you're reviewing the previous chapters each week. I set up a schedule where I finish one chapter a week (10 for FAR with Becker). At the end of each week, I'll review the previous chapters notes, flashcards and mcq's I got wrong. Then I'll do a comprenhensive progress test at the end of each week. The last 5 weeks will be non-stop MCQ's, re-writing notes and review.

I am studying for all of mine in about that time frame.

    I studied from Jan – May and passed BEC w/ a 91

    May – Aug and passed AUD w/ a 89

Aug – Jan and just took Reg and am waiting for a score

I plan to take FAR just before memorial day

Yes I have lost some retest opportunity but if I can pass Reg I should be good as it would give me 3 chances to pass FAR. If I fail REG I still have three testing windows to pass 2 tests – not ideal.

I need a lot of time b/c I have a full time job and two kids. It has worked for me – I've felt pretty prepared in the exams.

    BEC - 5/2012 - 91
    AUD - 8/2012 - 89
    REG - 1/2013 - 90
    FAR - 5/2013 - 88
Wife, 2 kids and a job

I did it that way for FAR because of the volume plus the fact I wasn't on the clock yet. For the turnaround for BEC, it'll be just under 8 weeks from study start to exam day (started studying 12/26, exam day is 2/23). For me, the biggest trick was to hammer home progress tests. I'd do about 10 a week to end the studying for the week.

On My Way to a CPA...

    FAR- 83 (12/02/12) (Try #1...by some miracle)
BEC- 80 (2/23/13) (Try #1... by some miracle)
AUD- 77 (05/04/13) (Try #1... by some miracle)
    REG- 79 (08/03/13)(Try #1... by some miracle)

I am all for the one lesson per week style. It's all I've ever done. I tried to do two per week with FAR and I just felt rushed. However, studying one lesson per week slowly did not mean I studied any LESS. I also didn't take 4 months for any of my exams. I still studied anywhere from 25-40 hours per week. I read, reread, and did countless MCQs. If you do this slow style but also study each section thoroughly, you really don't need to leave two weeks for review. I always reviewed on the weekends after every section. That way, I kept everything fresh in my mind throughout the process. I moved my BEC exam up to the day after I finished studying the last section, and I allotted 6 days of review for FAR. So for the longest exam (FAR) I only studied about 3 months, max. 4 months is a pretty long time to be studying for any of these exams, in my opinion.

Anyway, I am really fond of this type of schedule if you can swing it because I have had awesome results with it. Good luck.

    BEC: (4/2012) 88
    AUD: (5/2012) 91
    REG: (8/2012) 82
    FAR: (1/2013) 78 🙂

Thanks for all the insite everyone!!!

I figure you really only need the 18 month time frame for 3 exams because the time frame starts once you pass the first one, not when you first start studying.
