Hi, I’ve submitted my transcripts to NASBA recently and waiting for evaluation results. Hopefully I will start my CPA journey in Aug 2014. Meanwhile I’m planning to buy Becker study material & start preparing for the tests. Can you Advise if I buy all 4 sections of Becker 2014 will I be able to use them in 2015 as well?

Your 2014 software will be updated in 2015, and you can buy 2015 books for $15 a piece next year. You will have 16 months from when you install software to use them if your a self-study student.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you try to have a realistic idea of how many exams you can pass in 2014. I ended up buying FAR 2012 and BEC/REG/AUD 2013 all in one call to Becker. I then installed FAR in 2012 and the time was ticking and I didn't study for a year. I then had 4 months to pass FAR when I started studying again before I lost access. The good news is I didn't end up installing the 2013 materials until the middle of 2013, so I basically have all of 2014 to use them.

If you are working you should tell Becker you want either two or three sections to be 2014 and the other one/two sections to be 2015. If things are still the same, then you would have a different start time(16 month access period) for the 2015 materials. The 2015 materials will be released in late November and you will have access to them until mid 2016 if you install them right away. I highly recommend starting with FAR and then AUD.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

I personally think the CPA Excel program is much better than Becker because:

    – You only pay once and no matter how long it takes you to pass all four parts of the exam within 18 months, not only do you still have access to the material but all updates to the material.

    – The CPA Excel program is a program that can be tailored to any type of learner, which includes those who are independent learners and don't need instructor led courses but only need the material, videos, practice exams, etc. Then the program also includes actual courses which are instructor led.

    – In relation to Becker, CPA Excel costs much lower.

    * State of MA CPA Exam Candidate
    - BEC: Sunday, August 24th
    - FAR: Saturday, November 29th
    - AUD: TBA for February 2015
    - REG: TBA for May 2015

I would also agree that CPAexcel is better than Becker, it offers more questions and SIMS. Becker's marketing campaign is rediculous, and that ‘allows' them to sell there overpriced software to tons.

Does CPAexcel come with Wiley's test bank now? CPAexcel may have more sims, but about 20% less questions than Becker assuming Wiley's test bank is sold separately. CPAexcel's research sims are pretty much useless. Beckers software quality is better than CPAexcel's by a good amount. CPAexcel has easier(not overly complex launguage) to comprehend reading material, but I get tired of not having a physical copy. Becker's questions are harder than the exams, and CPAexcels are more reflective of whats on the actual exam. Beckers lectures are better than CPAexcels. I would probably go with Becker if my firm was paying for it and CPAexcel/Roger if I was paying for it. Roger's software is actually very good and I prefer(but not enough to require him for BEC) watching his lectures over reading CPAexcel's/Becker's books.
