Stretched employment & Got the offer

So I finally got the offer but I made a mistake on my resume.

My resume went through many revisions from friends and whatnot. So he changed one employment and extended it by a month (my last reported day was 8/30 but he said it ended in sept).

Another one showed that I worked ended work in June, but really it was the END of May again.

I know I’m wrong and dumb. Something as silly as this could’ve costed me my job. But I wasn’t aware of these errors when I submitted my resumes and by then it was too late to correct it. Since I thought saying there was a mistake on my resume, might put me out of the running.

Can ANYONE please tell me how background checks will find this out and if they do, will they put a red flag immediately? Or should I call my previous employers and discuss with them (since I think they like me enough to say that I worked a few extra days in that month)?

I really NEED this job and anything info will help. What do the background checks entail?

If it's only a month off, I would think they could easily chalk it up to someone remembering incorrectly.

I don't beleive you but TBH kimberoni is right if they ask just play dumb – people forget dates all the time. They could fire you I guess but I'd say it is very unlikely.

I don't think it's a big deal but have to wonder why you'd let a friend change anything on your resume (most people will recommend changes but not execute them) or why you didn't proof your own resume before you used it. Even if that's the way it all went down, it's not your friend's responsibility.

So what are you planning on doing, blaming your “friends” for the “mistakes” on your resume if your offer gets rescinded? LOL…

It is what it is, what you did is not worse than people who only put the years they spent at a particular employer on their resume to try to cover-up a gap of many months. What I wouldn't do is contact your former employers asking them to fib for you, seems like an easy way to piddle away whatever goodwill you might have with them.

You are wrong. Putting years only is at least being truthful and can always be expanded upon if asked in interview. But stretching all of your dates so that each of your many gaps magically disappear is wrong. Further it is clear that there was intent behind it because ppl may forget exact dates but they won't forget gaps. So to say. “Oh I didn't remember I had any gaps- I thought I started each of those jobs the day after I left the other” clearly is stretching it. Just be truthful guys. Personally I put months.

definitely dont do that….it would be super unethical…..

just make sure to check your work better than you checked your resume once you start your job…..one month shouldnt make a difference
