If you were to switch to manual labor from accounting would you put your accounting experience on your resume?

Yes because you have to show you've been employable and find skills that translate to accounting (met deadlines, supervised others, interpersonal skills.)

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

Yes, put your experience on your resume. There are a lot of people who switch careers.

At the end of the day, all employers want to see the same thing: Past successes in professional and personal endeavors. The logic is that someone who succeeded before (at anything, really) is likely to succeed again.

Can you speak to your professional qualities and skills that made you a good laborer/salesperson and why you think those qualities can help you learn a new field and succeed again? If so, you'll have no problems.

I had a major career switch and had the best luck making two resume sections. Related Work Experience, which was the longest section and included all my accounting education and experience, even though it wasn't a lot of accounting experience. Then Other Work Experience, which was a short, single entry that basically combined all my 15yrs of experience in my old profession (it didn't list employers, etc….just a generic job title).

Yes, you should have it there, they want to have some idea of what you're doing and where you came from. Just keep it short, simple, and mention some soft skills to relate it back, if possible.

We had a resume workshop, and each employer is going to look for something different. I had one who wanted me to include everything because it could show that I had 10 years of experience which she could stretch for the position. Another just wanted accounting oriented items. So before I started at my firm I had a relevant position which I included.

For what it's worth, I put my management experience in the fast food industry on my resume because it shows, well, experience managing teams of people in stressful situations. Will my future employers care if I can mop a floor or make a burger? Not likely.

If it translates – include it. If it doesn't, leave it off, unless you have a serious employment gap to fill.

absolutely put it on. I got my first job out of college because i had umpire (10-13yr old league) on my resume. Hiring manager asked for situations were i had to make split second decisions/calls that were unpopular. just be ready to talk about the unrelated job and the skills you learned from the job (dealing with ppl/perseverance/work ethic etc. def put it on though.
