The wait, the struggle, the agony

    Ok.

I know this topic has been mentioned here and there, but I’m still in limbo. I took FAR on 5/29 and my feeling is that I will have to take it again. My reasoning is quite simple. The MCQ’s started in the medium difficulty level and then the second testlet had a bunch of one line questions, the type that make you realize your doing poorly. My SIMS were out of this world and I would be very surprised if received more than 25% credit for my answers.

This was my third attempt since November 2012. My first try was November of 2011.

My question is, no matter what happens, i.e. pass/fail FAR, should I start studying for AUD or should I keep reviewing for FAR and if I failed re-take it? I would probably retake it middle of July.

Anyone have the same dilema as me? What did you do if this happened to you? Thanks, really appreciate the feedback.

    FAR - Bad Fail '11, Fail '12, Fail '13, PASS It's a miracle!
    AUD - Fail, PASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    BEC - PASS!!!!!!!!
REG - PASS!!!!!!!! And I'm done!

I highly highly highly suggest start studying for Auditing. July 31 will roll around a lot quicker than you think and especially if you have other obligations like a family and a job. If you study for FAR while waiting for FAR score, and you end up passing, thats a lot of days you wasted.

Put it behind you. Find the mental strength. This is not a sprint, it's a marathon. So whatever you do, don't stop till it's over.

    FAR-81!!
    AUD-69, Retake: 84!!
    REG-86!!
    BEC-81!!

    Hi there,

I took FAR on 5/29 as well. I feel the EXACT same way as you. This was my first CPA test but I knew once I got into the second testlet it was over because the questions were just way too simple. My third testlet had a few medium difficulty questions but still mostly one-liners. Nothing like what I was expecting considering you hear horror stories about FAR! Ugh and then I didn't even get to finish all of the SIMS because I ran out of time. I'm so worried I failed because I put so much time into studying for this. It was my first one so it'll be so discouraging if I find out that I didn't even pass.

I think most NASBA states will release the scores on Friday. So if you have nothing better to do until then, I would say get a jump start on AUD so you're not wasting time. And you never know, maybe you did pass FAR!! I already scheduled to take AUD at the beginning of July so that's what is going to keep me busy until then. For me, I decided I'd rather get that one over with since it's supposedly the easiest. Plus I don't want my NTS to expire on me. And then, if worse comes to worse and I did fail FAR, my plan is to retake it after that.

For you though, it might not be a bad idea to retake FAR sooner rather than later. If you don't have to worry about an expiring NTS or anything. And even if you study AUD for a few days before you know what you got on FAR, it wouldn't be time wasted since you'll have to study that eventually. Just my opinion but I would go with whatever you think is best.

I hope we both passed so we don't even have to worry about a retake! How long do people normally give themselves to study for a retake exam? I'm not working right now but I start my full time job at the end of July so it's going to be a lot harder then. 🙁

If you're working full-time, just wait 5 days for your score. If you're studying full-time, then start AUD.

Kip studying for far since u don't have to worry abt scors expiring. It's just a matter of a wk. studying means review ur notes and do mc's. basically it's important u need to b in study mode rather than actually studying.

I've never been able to tell how I'm doing based on the questions. I don't know if they're harder because I'm doing well or because I don't know the material. I took FAR on 5/31 and most of my MC were at least a paragraph. I don't remember many if any that were a single line or even two. I still feel bad about my exam especially the Sims. I've told myself that I'm not spending Friday constantly checking for my grade. I'm going to wait and check once on Saturday.

    Family – check

    Full time job – check

    Expiring NTS – check

Continuing to be in study mode I found is super important. It's crazy how difficult it is to continue studying after taking a break for a week.

    I know I didn't do two things:

    1. I didn't do any SIMS except for a few research ones.

    2. I did not study any J/E's because I figured I would just figure them out. They do have to balance after all so even if I didn't get the accounts right I would at least get the numbers aligned. Wrong!

My mind tells me to study for AUD. My gut says continue studying for FAR and just get it out of the way. I really don't want to start studying from the begining for it down the road when it's my last exam. I think that would be painful.

But, I think I will do this. I will start studying for AUD to get my mind off of FAR. If I failed, at least I'll have a fresher perspective for FAR. If I passed (please God!) then, like some of you said, I won't have wasted a week on re-studying FAR.

I love this forum because of these types of problems. You can't find answers to these situations in any of the review programs. Thanks!

I'm in the same boat as you- I took FAR on 5/29 and I have AUD scheduled for 7/2. If I don't pass FAR, I will either have to move AUD to 7/1 and cram in the retake of FAR on 7/3 before I lose BEC on 7/5 or just lose BEC. I didn't walk out of FAR feeling confident, the test was much much harder than I expected and I didn't slack off when I was studying. I honestly don't know if I passed or failed this one, my gut tells me I failed but it could really go either way. I figure I should just start studying for AUD now because if I fail, I know I'm going to have no motivation.

AUD: PASSED [81]; Expired, retaking August 23rd
BEC: PASSED [83]; Expired, retaking July 11th
    REG: PASSED [83]

funny how in college, we pray for the one liners. now as cpa candidates, we dread them! i honestly get extremely discouraged when i notice i have more than 3-4 one line questions. i got a bunch for reg this time around for the third testlet. my second testlet wasn't even cumulatively difficult either. sigh.

Took AUD on 5/30 and jumped right back on REG this morning. Even with the 1 week wait I'm not going to bother learning clarity audit until I forget the rest.

I took my first section (FAR) on 05/30 as well and I've debated my next move all weekend. Initially thinking back to my performance, I didn't feel so well and I immediately thought I'll probably have to retake that one. I've kind of convinced myself that I didn't do as bad as I initially felt, but I'm still leaning towards probably having to retake FAR. Since I'm attending Becker review for AUD starting tomorrow, I'm not sure if I have the option to refocus on FAR. I think I'm just gonna move on and go to AUD and continue to hope/pray/wish that I passed FAR!
