The "What Did I Buy Myself As A Reward for Passing the CPA" Post

I bought myself a new car. I am now the proud owner of a 2014 Mini Cooper convertible … (and 30K in debt).

Yes, I know…not the most CPA thing to do, but I really wanted it and after almost 7 years straight of working full time during the day and studies at night (BA, MAC, CPA), I decided I could reward myself.

I probably should have bought a new suit, but oh my goodness – she’s so cute sitting there in my driveway!

Anyone else reward themselves or have plans for a reward?

I decided to give myself some time off from studying. I figured I deserve at least that.

Hopefully I will survive the dreaded BEC bubble. Not sure what I am getting myself but my wife is getting a new dog and my kids a trip to Disney…

Time off to study??? Stag, what is next? Are you planning another certification? I've thought about doing the CIA (since I work in internal audit and absolutely love it), or the CMA…but I think I'm done for now.

Casagarber: Excellent idea! Your kids will love having you back! And I so want a dog, but I have a grumpy cat who would not approve.

@quinacridone time off from studying, not to study. now that I'm done with exams, I don't need to study anymore. I figure the free time I'm getting is better than anything I could possibly buy for myself. I had neglected my wife and kids for the last year, its time to spend some quality time with them on my days off from work instead of submerging myself in becker material.

Stag, that is awesome!!! I applaud your dedication to your family! (my youngest is 21 so I didn't have to worry too much about him, and my LTboyfriend has his PHd, so he fully supported me).

I was going to buy a very large flat screen TV when I finished my last exam, and then decided I would buy a Keurig instead. However, the bindings on my snowboard broke this winter, so I think I'm going to get a new snowboard (I've been riding a used one while I learned the sport, decided I loved snowboarding, and want to get a new one that I can hopefully keep around for a while). I don't need a new TV, and Folgers works just fine for me. 🙂 Plan is to have everything finished and application for license in by the middle of September (crossing fingers!!), so it will be just in time for the winter ski season!

I'm going to try to buy my soul back. I previously sold it to pass FAR 🙂

In all seriousness, I'm going with the BMW as well.

I probably shouldn't buy anything for myself, as I tend to have a problem with online shopping as a stress relief mechanism. Whoops. However, I plan on buying a nice piece of jewelry like a necklace from Tiffany so that I can always have something that signifies how hard I worked to accomplish something!

I'm going to replace my lucky Sidney Rice Seahawks T-shirt with a Sidney Rice jersey. I wore it to both my CMA exams, and all 4 CPA exams and passed all 6 on the first time. Hopefully the Seahawks can repeat this year!!

MS811, you have the quote of the year: “I'm going to try to buy my soul back. I previously sold it to pass FAR :-)”

I laughed out loud when I read that!!!

Took the wife and kids on two vacations to the beach with my bonus money (same year, once at the beginning of Summer and once at the end)

I bought myself a CPA tree. It's actually a Ginkgo Biloba (also known as a Maidenhair Tree). They are BEAUTIFUL in the fall when the leaves drop. I planted it where I could see it from my seat at the kitchen table and from my recliner. I love those trees and every time I mow the grass and pass it, I just smile!

First is a weekend to Kinder, LA (Coushatta). Second, a vacation to Playa del Carmen. Third, which Is part a dream, which I hope will be realized in the next 12 months, is to buy an Audi R8.
