October 18, 2012 at 12:33 pm #379891sarah210MemberI liked Tim better for REG. Actually, I liked them both a lot in REG. I think that was Becker's best section. I still remember examples from it. All other sections, Peter Olinto all the way. I'm in AUD now, and if I'm not mistaken, the entire thing is Tim Gearty. I am SO over him.

October 18, 2012 at 3:23 pm #379892TrishaParticipantTotally agree @sarah210… I am watching the Becker REG videos for the first time (took live classes for my first attempt at REG). It is definitely their best section. Tim wasn't horrible with tax, and I love Pete doing BLaw. He conversates about it, I think the best way to really explain the concepts. I hope watching them translates into a pass in November!

Peter Olinto not bad, but i feel so sleepy , he repeats the same point like zillion timesssss – though he is good!

Sometimes he'll say “again, blah blah blah” when he hadn't even told us it once yet. LOLOLOLOL.

October 18, 2012 at 5:41 pm #379898sarah210Member@shiggity– Aaaaaahhh!!! horrible flashbacks to FAR studying! make it stop! I really REALLY hope I passed FAR. If studying for it a 3rd time is anything like studying for it a 2nd time, I'll just end up shouting “shut up! just shut up!” at my laptop once Gearty starts launching into the “again” and “okay gang” and all that other stuff he likes to say.
At least Peter Olinto makes me think that nobody is better than us. C. P. Aaaaaaaayyy.

October 18, 2012 at 6:07 pm #379899TrishaParticipantOctober 18, 2012 at 9:37 pm #379900hellencpaParticipantOh for me i love them both……..ask me why……..my 6 month goes to sleep immediately when i open my lecture. It is the only voice he feels sleepy while listening. He is used to both of them as he started listening to them when i was pregnant……..my huband says my baby knows them better than him…….and they helped me to pass 3 sections as well…..so it is win win for me…
October 19, 2012 at 4:26 pm #379901sarah210Member@Trisha– My horrible score was from just using a Bisk book (no lectures or anything) and half assed studying while going to school, working, and buying a house. After I failed both FAR and REG using the Bisk books, I decided to buy Becker.
By the time I studied using Becker I had finished my last semester of school and moved into the house, so I was only working and studying.
I was an absolute slave driver on myself and made sure I studied 20 hours a week. I did the REG online class for 4 weeks and reviewed for 3 weeks. I went though all of the homework in Becker twice, watched all the tax lectures twice, and re-wrote the ninja notes for the b-law section. As I was watching the lectures for the first time I took really detailed notes. When I watched them the second time I did the underline and highlight thing. Honestly, I've always liked tax, and I really enjoyed (as much as you can enjoy this sort of thing) the Becker REG section. I almost cried the first day of studying with it because it was so much better than my el cheapo “buy a $30 book and hope for the best” method. I never practiced any SIMs or used any sort of supplementary MCQs, like Wiley or anything like that, although the day before the test I went over the AICPA recently released questions from 2011.
When it came to taking the test, I'm actually really good at researching, thanks to an undergrad in a liberal arts field, so I found the research tab on the exam relatively easy to work with. I left myself a TON of time to work on the SIMs during exam day. I want to say an hour and 40 minutes? I didn't waste time letting myself get hung up on really random MCQs. If I didn't know the answer, I just picked one and moved on.

October 19, 2012 at 11:40 pm #379902TrishaParticipantThank you for your advice! I have been studying a couple hours each work day and as much as possible weekends. I only have one chapter left. This will be the first time I had more than a few days for review, so I am pretty excited about that. Hoping that makes the difference 🙂 Hopefully you get good news soon 🙂 I have to say I am so thankful to have FAR behind me…

AUD 73, 76 🙂October 20, 2012 at 12:13 am #379903After studying Audit twice with nothing but Tim, when I clicked the first lecture for BEC, I literally said “PETER!!!” I was so excited to get a break from Tim!
I think Tim does a really great job of moving through the notes quickly and highlighting… couldn't agree more with @shiggity80 about his “and again”! But I think Peter does a really great job of putting the material into laminas terms, not reading directly from the text and just explaining it to you. Sometimes I just wish he would shut up and move on to the next topic though! Love them both!
