Tim Gearty is ridiculous with his highlighting

Now I remember why it takes me twice as long to listen to these videos! I have to keep pausing to catch up to this guy speed reading the book. Ef this, no really. Having done WTB for FAR going back to Becker is a change to say the least!

How does speed reading entire paragraphs do any justice to the candidate? Sometimes I don’t know what page he’s on….I have to pause and compare page numbers. He is by far the least engaging of the lot. Booo Gearty! Booo!

I’m blowing through chapters at a clip of two to three per week and will then switch to WTB and Becker final review for the final month and change.

    AUD - 75*, 88 done 5/14! (*exp)
    BEC - 74 , 77
    REG - 65 , 76 (10 point combooo!!)
    FAR - 69 , 75

    Dr: perseverance
    Dr: intelligence
    Dr: luck
    . Cr: . advisory score

Exactly my thoughts and he does not even go over anything in detail!!! Its so annoying! For the very few parts that he does explain a bit, it really helps, but mostly he is reading verbatim and that too at a racing speed!

Very annoyed with Gearty for Aud. He was not this bad in Reg.

I personally don't highlight anything. I just use a red pen and underline what looks important. Saves a bunch of time for me.

I really wished I had watched a Becker sample video before choosing the course. I CANNOT STAND how they make us underline and highlight everything. Granted, I like Peter Olinto a lot better than Gearty though. Sometimes I feel like I'm spending more time highlighting than interpreting the actual material.

I highlighted like a madman, again a mad, again a madman for the 1st chapter of AUD, again the 1st chapter of AUD.

In all seriousness though, when it came to Gearty I quickly realized that I was wasting my time with all the highlighting. From that point forward, I highlighted only sections that I knew I would review before the exam. I think that any candidate would be better served by spending the time taking notes (if you're that diligent) and/or gaining a true understanding of the material vs. trying to keep up with Gearty's incessant “highlight this and underscore that.” I really have to question the value of highlighting when 90% of the material ends up being highlighted.

    ✓ AUD: (02/12/13) 71 | (05/31/13) 80
    ✓ REG: (05/13/13) 75
✓ BEC: (08/06/13) 80 - Unwilling participant in the "Server Upgrade" debacle
    ✓ FAR: (08/31/13) 65 | (12/06/13) 75 - Beat the Cali Education Requirement
    ✓ PETH: (12/25/13) 86 | (12/26/13) 92
    ✓ CA CPA: (02/13/14)

I have found that they skip a lot of stuff, which I think got me in trouble my first audit test. Now I read everything. I am not leaving anything to chance.

    BEC - 5/26/2013 75
    REG - 8/31/2013 82
    AUD - 11/24/2013 74, 2/9/2014 92
    FAR - 5/25/2014 85

Hi Keishalove – I mainly used Becker, but I also used Ninja Audio, which is really helpful if you have a long commute. If this is your first attempt at AUD, I would recommend reading the chapters 2 or 3 times, changing the order from your strongest sections to your weakest during your final review. For instance I read in the following order 1, 2, 4,6,3, and 5.

    BEC - 5/26/2013 75
    REG - 8/31/2013 82
    AUD - 11/24/2013 74, 2/9/2014 92
    FAR - 5/25/2014 85
