Took first Test (AUD), I thought it was hard! How do you think I did?

    Hi all,

New to the whole CPA test thing. I have the Ninja 10 pt combo. I took Audit the other day:

I really didn’t feel well leaving the exam. Shoot, half way through I wanted to quit! I just sat in my car for 20 minutes to cool down. Lol. I was crushing Ninja MCQs before the exam. I was trending around 84% and had an avg of about 70% I think. Hit the review stage. My last few practice exams I was scoring MCQ in the high 80s!

The first testlet seemed really hard, I flagged a bunch of mcqs, but I slowly narrowed them down to 2 answers and I think those went okay. The next two testlets I think were a mix of really tough questions with some no brainers lightly mixed in. Not more wordy, just pretty tough. I flagged maybe 4-5 in both.

I feel like a decent amount of mcqs weren’t exactly in ninja mcqs (I thought I studied for the wrong test! lol). And like I said, half way through I really was being negative on my chances of passing.

The Sims were pretty tough. I don’t know if I got the research right. I’m betting I got at least 60 or 70% on all of them (AL was no help, but I made educated answers on ones I wasn’t sure of)

Has anyone had a similar experience? I’m clueless on how I may have done! Everyone at work is asking!

Sounds like you did great! I had the same experience after using Becker and everything turned out fine.

Hard is not necessarily a bad thing. It is not common for someone to feel “great” after the exam, especially since there is absolutely no idea of knowing how you did until the results come out. Best plan is to just keep yourself occupied until the score release because worrying will just drive you insane. Worrying wont increase or decrease your score.

Sims are usually harder than the MC in my testing experience. I remember my audit sims being a pain compared to the MC and that was what scared me but I guess I did just enough.

Tough times don't last. Tough people do.

So not to be a downer or anything, but I can totally relate to your experience. I took AUD for the first time in May, and I was pretty confident going in. But about halfway through, I realized that I was not as prepared as I thought. The SIMs were awful. I walked out just knowing that I did not pass and would be taking it again. The results came in…and I definitely didn't pass. I felt like my review program didn't fully prepare me for the questions. I was comfortable with the questions in the Wiley Test Bank, but what ended up being on my test felt like it was totally different stuff. Unfortunately, I found the NINJA stuff the night before I took the test again last weekend so I wasn't able to utilize any of it. I am not sure how my retest went, but I am ok if I do have to end up taking it again.

This time around for REG, I am using a different study strategy (since watching the Wiley videos just didn't do it for me) and incorporating NINJA materials as well. Hopefully I will have better success this time around.

Good luck! I really hope that you did better than I did. 🙂

Yeah sometimes I think it's a crapshoot. But you see people on here who felt that way and passed…I wonder if they're the same people who in college thought they failed and got a 95 lol

@Tcohle – Um, I was one of those people (at least that's what I am told haha) – and I had never in my life felt like I did as poorly on a test as I did walking out of AUD the first time. It was awful. I was so frustrated.

But yes, it's definitely a crapshoot. I have heard/read so many stories about people who thought they did terrible on the CPA and ended up passing!

@Jenpen hahaha that's okay. I was always jealous because I was the opposite! Anyways, not sure about OP, but I felt like I did decent and was well prepared, but at the same time I was confused and pissed. MCQs were pretty hard but not lengthy. Hard to explain…

@BBallKid I just realized that it was out of my hands and there was nothing I could but wait. Worrying doesn't help anything. I took AUD x2 last Sunday, gave myself a few days, and then started studying for REG to sit for it next month. Just move on and keep yourself busy!
