<B>I have phone interview at EY today and have a question about. If they ask me what is your current salary or my expectation. what should I say? I am a CPA for past 8 months. I have been working since 2013 as staff accountant, financial analyst. so how much should I ask for or any range? I did not apply for job at EY, just a friend referral, so glassdoor wasn’t much help.

    thank you in advance

Shoot for the star. Are you going in as senior or staff, if senior i say 75 plus if staff mid 60s

It seems like every time a person asks for salary information, they forget to tell us their location.

Last I heard was that staff start out at 58k in Chicago but this was 2 or 3 years ago. And this is for people right out of school.

depends where you are located. EY in nyc is 58 not including any bonuses for first year audit. I dont think any of the big 4 start their employees over 60 base for first year audit, but i could be wrong. This is just from my personal knowledge from talking with friends and colleagues. Tax would probably be in the mid 60s

Since you have no idea what ballpark is for your area do not give a number. Either tell them that you're willing to negotiate salary after getting to know more about the position or tell them that you are confident their offer will be competitive for your skills and background.

If you pick some number out of a hat or based on a bunch of strangers online you're running the risk of taking yourself out of the game completely or short changing yourself. That's silly.

I thought the company was always supposed to make the first move? Someone on this board said “Competitive, but I'm excited about the opportunity” and I thought that was an awesome response. I used that for all of my interviews.

    BEC - 83 7/25
    REG - 76 5/2/15
AUD - Hopefully before MY Audit...7/5?
    FAR - 83 5/2/16

    Location is key.

Starting out of college in Boston I will be making 55k (without cpa). Hopefully that helps as a basis somewhat. 55k is for Boston and 58k is for NYC. Those would be considered “competitive rates” as a staff I accountant.
