What does it mean when an interviewer ends with this statement?

I recently had an interview for an audit/assurance entry level position at CohnRez. It was three rounds- first with two HR personnel, second with senior auditor, and finally with the senior manager. At the conclusion of the interview, the senior mgr stated “I hope to see you on board with us, good luck”.

Does his response indicate anything? Or am I over-analyzing the statement?

Is there any signs or word usage that I should be aware of during the interview that indicates that I won’t be getting the job?

Also, who has the power in making the final decision in hiring? And what is the purpose for having an interview with the manager and a staff member in addition to HR?

    Thanks!

I would take his response to mean that he was pleased with you – however, that doesn't mean you absolutely have it, as there's several people involved in the decision. It could also just mean that he's trying to be friendly, but I would hope at that level, he would understand that the candidates are hanging on his every word and would only say positive things if he meant them.

The purpose of the various different interviews is because the various people all have input – HR primarily to ensure you comply with hiring policy and requirements, the “real” staff to see if they want to work with you and know the job-specific info.

As to who has the final say, that's harder to say – there may be a standard within CohnRez or it may vary from office to office. Everyone who interviewed you has some say, but without knowing CR, in general I would say the senior manager is probably the final say.

I was told in an interview with Baker Tilly that “they would be lucky to have me in a team”. After a week, I received a rejection letter from them. They being polite is good, but also misleading sometimes.

@jk1989 I think you are being too morbid. Stay positive!! I personally believe that it is a sign he liked you. As Lilla mentioned, that is no guarantee everyone else has the same feeling. But as far as the actual comment he made, it is a very positive sign. Keep us posted. Good luck and enjoy the holidays!!
