Where do you go to study?

    Of course the majority of your choice will be “at home”, but I would like to know where you guys go to study.

    I am having trouble especially on the weekend, because the nearby libraries close at 5:00PM.

    Dunkin’ Donuts that are open 24hrs are usually playing music(One Direction and Katie Perry) so loud that I can still hear it with my earplugs on. Employees are chatting, and too many kids hanging around. It will tame down once the school starts, with college kids studying there.

    Starbucks is a good place, but then they close at 7:00 on Sat/Sun.

    It’s hard to find a place to study during the summer because not a lot of people study at those places.

    I know summer is almost over, I like to know where you guys go.

    I have heard that hospital cafeteria(after hour) is a good place to study, but I haven’t tried yet.

    Any creative/unusual places to study? Please share.

    I do all my studying at home, but I do see a lot of people with laptops working or studying at Panera. How about a small locally owned bakery, coffee shop or book store? Even a large Barnes & Noble. They are fairly quiet, comfortable and open late. Do you have a quiet park nearby? Sometimes I study on my porch (when I need to get away from thumping about the house by the kiddos) and I often feel rejuvenated just by being outside. If I could get away I would go to a park!

    I go to the office. It's pretty quiet on Sundays.

    What could be better than a room in your house. You can control the environment, no loud music no sitting in chair that is not comfortable, take nap when you want , eat when you want. I think home is the best place.

    I hate studying at home because I'm always reminded about the million things I need to get done around my house. During the week, I usually stay late at work and study at my desk or in a conference room. On the weekends, I head to a coffee shop…usually Starbucks, since it's only 2 blocks from my house and they stay open until 11pm.

    I study at work on the weekends, because I get too easily distracted at home. It gets kind of depressing because I end up in the office 7 days a week…but such is the life of a CPA candidate

    If there's a community college nearby, you can probably study in their library – my college frequently had non-students seeking refuge in its quiet spaces!

    I would also second the idea of a quiet park somewhere. I loved studying on the porch at our house because being in the fresh air kept me awake and able to focus, so would replicate that away from the home by finding a quiet park. A park with a playground frequented by kids wouldn't work well, but there's several parks around here that are quiet, either because they're more nature-focused (little or no playground equipment, more quiet places to watch nature) or because they're just not very well known.

    Do you live near a college or university? You should be able to go and study in their library and they are always open late on the weekends. Personally, I study at home. We turned one of guest rooms into an office with a big corner desk, fluffy rug, and comfy chairs- it's perfect and cozy and I'm fine just closing the door and studying all day in there.

    Personally, I can't study at because that is a place of comfort. I live in Southern California, and specially in the San Gabriel Valley, its diluted with Tea & Boba shops. You'll see a plethora of students studying there. Upside, close at Midnight, downside, they open around 11-12 noon.

    ^ I am the same. If I am sitting at home studying, then I get tempted to do the dishes, organize my closet, clean the bathroom that my wife has been narking on me for 2 weeks, NAP, cook supper, NAP, drink wine, NAP……

    Thus I usually go to the local public library in the summer and then my alma mater library during the school year. Sometimes, I switch it up with a coffee shop or once in a while I will stay home so my wife feels more loved….

    @LKD CPA

    I gotta get away from the kids…huge distraction. I get distracted every 3 min. My earplugs muff their voice, not muting it completely.

    Panera sounds good…they close at 9:00 around here. But definitely better than Starbucks which closes at 8:00 on the weekends.

    Local mom&pop shop close like 5:00. They serve people from retirement home nearby. I guess they don't drink coffee after 4:00 PM. They open super early though @5:00 AM. I am still in bed.

    @BillfromAccounting

    I wish I could go in my office on the weekend, the building security is too tight so I can't get in.

    I might as well try the cafe at the gym I usually go to.

    @h0wdyus

    I kinda miss those days when I could do whatever on Sat/Sun…CPA exam is something everyone should consider getting it over with before having a family. I can't just lock them out completely 🙁

    It's a constant “where's my ____?”, “I'm hungry”, “My brother/sister hit me!”, “I'm bored” and ” Can we have fun today?” followed by my husband's “Did you get any movies to watch tonight?”, “SNL or no?”

    @DOSMO

    So…what are you wearing now?( I'm not a pervert, but I had to ask 😛 )

    I put on loose pants, they look kinda like PJ pants, to go anywhere 2miles radious from my house.

    I get too distracted with things around the house. I make too many excuses to get out of my chair.

    @michaelsjr

    Nearby Starbucks (at least 5 locations I know) are not so big, so if 5 people go there solo, all the small tables are taken, they are completely occupied.

    I wish some Starbucks open till 11:00, I live in the burb, suburban shops open late. I wish I still live there.

    @David

    yeah, it's depressing. I really hope that this is over soon.

    My office is closed over the weekend, but building is not(several companies share the building), I guess I'll see if I can study in the lobby where I can sit on the plush lounge chair.

    @Lilla & Amanda_88

    I thought of the same thing.

    The library at the community college close to my house is closed on the weekends throughout the summer. It's hard to believe.

    There isn't a big university around my house (40min+ drive), so that' out of question.

    Finding a spot to study on the weekend is really difficult.

    @mrsimple

    I like Boba shops. It's nice they are open late. I wish there is one around here. We don't have standalone Boba shop around my house. Usually you can get it at the restaurant or mall.

    I wonder why. Gotta have to do with sub zero climate in Chicagoland.

    @golfball7773

    I know your feeling. When my husband came home, I thought I can get out to study.

    I cook dinner and feed them, then he says “so what are we doing tonight? Any movie?” Like I have to entertain everyone. I really need to get out.

    Thanks guys for the idea! I found a few places I wanna check out which I didn't know they stay open a few hours later than I thought.

    I actually alternate between starbucks and McDonald's during the day. Sometime it's Starbucks, the local library, and McDonald's. A few Starbucks closes at 10:30 and McDonald's closes at midnight. I prefer the Starbucks and McDonald's because they have wifi.

    Have you tried going to any of those 24 hour places and just wear noise cancelling headphones?

    during weekdays, try to study in your Office from 6am to 8am and then from 5pm to 9pm. During weekends, pack your tent and try the beach or a quiet park.

    Home can be soooooooo distracting. I usually end up with doing the dishes and organizing the bookshelves, etc…. School library is good. Starbucks has a lot of noise and a lot of people coming in and out so it won't be my first choice. Studying at workplace is a good idea, I'll probably try this week.
