Whistleblower just venting

Yesterday was my last day working for the company where I essentially became a whistleblower. As I was packing up my stuff, bank management and auditors came to the office to meet with the owner. It wasn’t pretty. I’m projecting the company will be closed by summer. I’m feeling so torn. There are still people working there I care about, but I just couldn’t be in a situation where I was being asked to commit fraud. No way am I willing to jeopardize all this hard work toward obtaining my CPA license. I thought I would sleep better being out of there, but I was up all night worried about my now former co-workers, and the fact that I’m unemployed. Just needing affirmation that I did the right thing.

Yep. It's a hard spot to be in, but it's right. I recently read a book written by the WorldCom whistleblower, and she talked a lot about the emotional toll it takes, because people you care about are harmed through it…so, know that your feelings are common for whistleblowers, acknowledge them, and try to sort through them.

Lilla – Do you remember the name of the book? After taking AUD on Wednesday I'm going to have some free time on my hands.

What you did was show your true character. You stood for what you believe in. It isn't about a CPA exam, it is about doing what is right. As you think about the people you left behind, don't ever forget about the ones that were submissive for whatever reason. This is a character defining event.

@LKD CPA It was “Extraordinary Circumstances” by Cynthia Cooper – https://www.amazon.com/Extraordinary-Circumstances-Journey-Corporate-Whistleblower/dp/0470443316/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1423956510&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=extraorindary+circumstances just about $6 with shipping for a used copy. She talked at the end about meeting a couple other whistleblowers and bonding over their shared experience. My sister got me this book for my birthday and said something along the lines of “Maybe someday that can be you!” just thinking about the lady becoming famous through accounting work, and I was like “No, I hope that's never me…it's not a good spot to be in.” But kudos to you for doing what's right – it's not easy, it's emotional trying, but you did it and you should be proud of yourself.

@LKD – What you did took a lot of character and I am sure one day you will look back and be proud of your ability to have made that decision and the positive impacts it will have had on your professional development. Best wishes.

@LKD CPA you are awesome for standing up for what you know is right. Just set your mind on positive things and be confident that your coworkers get placement fast and in better situations. Just imagined how many people you have saved from the negative effects of the fraud you were asked to commit. Those coworkers you care for fall into that category.
