    NINJA Question –

    Hello all,

Taking FAR on April 6th and I had a question. I downloaded the NInja FAR free download and like how concise the material is. I am having trouble weeding my way through the Wiley text as it is very technical and not to-the-point. With all the info we need to know, I need some simple “2+2=4” NOT “the derivative of X blah blah blah”…. you get where I’m coming from. Does anyone recommend a NINJA notes as a good addition to the Wiley material? I know that it summarizes materials, but wasn’t sure if it helped those that are in my similar predicament. I have the focus notes for Wiley, but I’m looking for a break through on understanding FAR.

    Thanks in advance

In this case, you probably want the book and not the notes…the book is meant to replace other long-winded books and video courses.

Wiley's was the reason why I switched to Gleim. At times it was just too technical and difficult to understand. If I had to choose between Wiley and Ninja, I choose Ninja without a doubt. Wiley's also has the issue of not correcting prior errors. They tend to remain after each subsequent editions.

As a Wiley book user, I would recommend getting the Ninja Audio and maybe also the Notes (they are pretty much the same material, but in different formats– Ninja Audio is like he is reading the Notes to you). Using the Ninja products really helped make Wiley more accessible for me.

I kept the audio on constantly while I was driving. If I was listening to something in the audio and hadn't read that part of the book yet, that was okay– when I got to that part of the book, I was like “oh yeah, I remember hearing about that in Ninja Audio” and it helped it click better. Or if I read that part of the book before getting there on my audio (my “commute” is only 15 minutes), then when I heard the audio section it made it make more sense.

Then you need constant repetition driving the concepts home.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

I did the audio for Reg and planned on doing it for far… Jeff's audio is a great filler for wasted time in the car. I listened to it on my commute. I just can't grasp the Wiley material. It's crazy wordy. Anyone else have any input?

Thanks for the responses Jeff Sky and Kimboroni

I am not a fan of wiley because it is so long, but my concern is making sure I cover everything. Does the Ninja book cut out too much?

Bumping the above comment…any thoughts on those that have bought it.

The NINJA Book only covers what's on the exam. There's no need for a video course to weed through what you don't need to know because the book is only what you need to know. Each concept has a direct exam application.

    It's lite, but very thorough.

Jeff when you say that the Ninja book only covers whats on the exam, are you implying that other study courses such as Wiley provide too much information and adds additional irrelevant study time? Just curious because I've heard you mention this before 🙂

    Thanks Jeff,

Your answer is exactly what I need to know….I really only want what's on the exam. So I'll keep using the ninja products.

@Tncincy- I also use Wiley. I'm having trouble with the cash to accrual stuff. Do you know where in the ninja notes/book that's highlighted? I have trouble navigating in the ninja material

@jgmart04….It might be easier to google or refer to old accounting books to get the cash to accrual concept…..It worked for me to use my old basic accounting book for some of the topics that Wiley get too wordy with.

For clarity, I still use Wiley, it is long and boring but I use it along with my ninja products. I felt I was getting too dependent upon the audio and the notes to where I was not using the book. As long as the end result is a 75, at this point I'll do what I have to do. I can't spend anymore money…on a cpa material punishment, husband enforced ban. I can only pay for the test. He did agree to let me get the ninja test bank but that's it.
