    Hello all,

I have to retake REG in about a month, but had a question regarding my time allotment…..I am currently going through the Wiley Test Bank and Wiley Text book….but was wondering which one would be more beneficial for the test….i have gone through becker lectures, text book, testbank etc but got a 62….was wondering if I would be better off practicing questions straight from test bank….or reading wileys text book (which is taking some time + questions in the text book)

    any help is appreciated

I would just work tons of questions from either the test bank or the book or both if time permits. Don't read the book. Read the explanations that are given with the answers (both right and wrong answer explanations) as these will give you all the info you need. They have great explanations about why the answer is right or wrong and by working them you will learn the theory and how to calculate the problems. If you hit a topic that is giving you trouble and can't quite understand it from the explanations then go back and read over that topic.

I agree with bnrhilton. I only read the chapters that were the most confusing/difficult to understand in the Wiley book. Other than that doing the MCQ's as Jeff says, until you puke, should give you plenty of knowledge to take the exam.

I did find one little nugget on this forum that someone suggested and it has allowed me to work more questions during one day than ever before. I started breaking up my test bank sessions into 10 questions each. It makes it go by much faster and it gives you a performance indicator much more frequently so you can adjust your studying a little bit at a time.

Has anyone taken a the test on the test bank yet? I haven't because I'm assuming they recycle questions from the practice and quiz sessions, or are they new questions?

I would use the pomodoro technique and work questions for 25 minutes and then take a 5 minute break. After four consecutive pomodoros I would take a 15 minute break. in my week before the exam I would work sets of 20 questions from each section at first to find my weak areas and the last couple days I would work 30 question testlets choosing questions from all sections all in quiz mode. I never take the exam mode because I want to see the explanations to gather any facts that may help me understand something I am missing.

Buyer beware on exam mode, the questions are recycled!!! I took 8 of them the week before my last audit attempt on 2/25/13 and was constantly running into repeaters. Becoming overly familiar with the test bank questions was my undoing on my last audit attempt!!! I found myself memorizing or recognizing the correct answer rather that learning the concepts! It padded my stats and led me to think I was much better off than I actually was and I ended up with a 68 when I had a running average of 88 on the test bank! Just be sure to see a good mix of Q&A from different sources and you will be fine! 🙂

not sure about exam mode but in study mode you have the option of only seeing questions not seen before, questions seen less than x times or all questions. my test bank is expired now since I am done so I can't check on the test mode options.

@bnrhilton You are 100% correct! In practice mode you can select topics and questions never seen, seen fewer than X, etc. but on exam mode you just get what they feel like giving you!

I think that this is a flaw with the Test Bank, but I also noticed that some questions, not all, are repeated in the Wiley book as well from the Test Bank. Has anyone done the exam that is at the end of the book. Are the questions there different or the same? Anyone do the practice exam on the AICPA website? Was it usefull, does it give you a “performance indicator” (this is the first time I have ever used that term, spooky)?

I used the Wiley Test Bank (both study and exam modes) and not the questions in the Wiley books…so can't help you there.

Definitely (DEFINITELY) do the practice tests on the AICPA website. It's not long or thorough enough to give you a performance indicator but I still found it helpful and I did them for every section.

The AICPA practice tests are usually the last bit of prep I do berfore an exam and I typically do this on the morning of the exam. I think AICPA gives you a couple of MCQs (4 or 5) and some very short and straightforward TBSs (1 or 2). I know some people don't bother with these practice tests but I have had experiences on AUD and REG where I got a couple of the same exact MCQs that I did in the practice–>word for word. That's a huge confidence booster and confidence at test time always helps. One time for FAR, I got the same TBS. Well the one in the actual exam was longer but the first half of it was what I practiced on the AICPA website that morning so I was really excited when I got that TBS again. Sometimes, you won't see any of the same questions. But doing a couple of practice questions for 15 minutes with the hope that you'll see the questions again at exam time isn't a complete waste of time… at least not in my book.
