    Hi everyone,

    My company was purchased by a company in another state. They decided to take over the Accounting Dept. so all of us in Accounting team will be laid off after the year-end audit. My last day will be Feb. 28th. They offered me 3 months of severance pay plus a retention bonus. So I’m thinking of taking a month off (March) to prepare for my FAR exam which will be on April 2nd and REG on May 28th. Sounds like a good plan but I’m kinda freaking out too thinking I don’t have a job with a toddler depending on me. Also, I’d like to use my severance pay to pay some of my student loan. So I’m tempted to start looking for a job. Do you think it’s a good decision to take a month off and just focus on preparing for my FAR exam. This is my first time taking the exam and I’ve heard how intense FAR is. Please advise.

    If it were me I'd look for a job immediately and I don't have a child. This exam will always be here to be taken. You can always study while applying/interviewing,

    Are they offering any kind of placement services? If so, take advantage of that resource. Finding a job may take time so start with your resume now. Hook up at least with a temp firm because finding a spot as a temp can take time too. Even if you decide to study do it while looking for a permanent job. Exams can be worked into job search and new start date. Best of luck to you.
    There are so many people active on this forum from your area reach out for job search suggestions…they may know who is looking right now.

    @Myleen28

    Would it be helpful to you to have a study partner who's starting FAR and planning to sit for the exam almost the same time?
    I'm starting FAR, and planning to take the Exam beginning of April (April 1st – April 5th) didn't schedule yet.

    Having a partner would really help -I believe- both of us stay motivated.
