Will Removing GPA from resume raise suspicions? Can I lose my Internship?

I apologize, I’m sure you all have come across quite a few frantic interns/soon to be accountants, but I have to ask anyway.

I was offered an internship with a top 15 accounting firm which starts in a few weeks early June, we received an email asking us to send an updated resume (no transcript) but I’m sure they’re interested in our new grades. When I received my offer I had a 3.08 so I already wasn’t a steller candidate and had to work hard at networking to get the interviews I did. I now have a 2.84 and am afraid my offer may be rescinded, however if I exclude the GPA from my resume this may raise suspicion anyway and they may ask for transcripts?

At the time I applied I had two jobs and had to do a bit of travel for my interviews which resulted in me continuing receiving not so stellar grades, but I had only dropped to a 3.05. However this past winter, my mom became ill, I traveled home quite frequently and was overall unfocused and got a 1.55GPA for the quarter which brought me to a 2.84 overall.

I know I can’t hide this forever and they will see my new grades eventually, but I have since left both of my jobs, and enrolled in community college in an attempt to salvage my profile, I’m retaking Intermediate accounting which I got a C- in this quarter, as well as several other courses and If i make decent grades I can get back to a 3.0 this spring. I was hoping to accomplish this without them noticing but now I am in a pickle.

What should I do? Exclude the GPA, Resubmit the resume but not updating the GPA, or putting the 3.05 I had after fall since I am retaking one of my winter courses (This seems unethical), come clean about the 2.84GPA (probably what I need to do but don’t want to :(…)

I'm leaning toward including the lower GPA, should I attach a message with my resume, noting the decrease in GPA, and my plans to improve it.? (Leaving jobs, enrolling in CC, retaking course)? I would not include the details about my family.

I just don't want to give information about my personal life, and I don't want it to seem like I'm making an excuse, or seeking sympathy. I know at the end of the day I failed to handle all of my responsibilities, I should have taken steps to salvage my grades before it ever got to this point, but I can only go forward at this point.

Leave it off. Then if it comes up tell the truth. If it doesn't come up you don't have anything to worry about.

Once you get past your first two or three jobs, GPA becomes a nonissue again. Most employers are interested in your experience. There are a lot of recent graduates out there with 3.7 and above GPA but still can't get a job because of no experience.

The only reason you should include your GPA is if it is a known requirement for the internship. Otherwise, I would definitely leave it off. I've always been told that you should never include your GPA on your resume for any reason unless it is above a 3.5.

I included it, without a message, if an issue arises I'm prepared to address it. We had submitted resumes initially (with GPA) and I'm assuming they will be compared. I do think it needs to be on there.

I know this is contrary to a lot of the advice here, and I do appreciate everyone for taking the time to post a response.

The more I thought about it, I realized how embarrassing it would be if they asked about my GPA or transcripts as a result of my not including it and saw my low grades. It would be clear I was trying to cover it up. And since this career is so heavily reliant on ethics that's the last thing I want to convey.

In this circumstance I agree with the outcome.

This is an internship; at that level employers are still very interested in grades and is likely the only reason they requested updated resumes (what else would they expect to change?). Trying to hide it would likely magnify the GPA.
