It would be interesting to hear different points of view. I strongly dislike my job, so much that it either interferes with my studying or ridiculously motivates me.

For me, I’m seriously considering a temporary auditor position that involves extended overseas travel in “unsafe” locations just to be able to leave my current job.

well, I'd say it's time for you to leave then!

Generally whenever you feel stressed constantly it means you have a shit job and should leave for another one. Small levels of stress are okay, but you'll know when it is too much. Once you get to that point, don't look back.

From experience, doing something you hate is a strong positive, the fuel from it pushes u further than u would have went if you were complacent. Guaranteed you have a better shot a passing while working a miserable job than if u were doing something you liked….

I'd say it's time to go; but I'd try to pass all parts of the exam first, you're not going to get much studying in if you are in an unsafe territory w/ bullets whizzing by your head. Plus, if you have the exam under your belt, you'll be more marketable.

Then again, nothing is worse than getting up and going to a terrible job everyday.

If you get up hating the idea that it is time to go to work, and go to bed dreading the idea of having to get up for work, then it is time to move on. I've been there before. Good people were at that job, but I was there for far too long and was unhappy with the work. But its what caused me to become an accountant. Like someone else said, sometimes keeping a job that you hate creates some motivation.

You know its time to leave your job when…………

-when you are posting a thread like this in an online message board

-when you are spending a lot of time on indeed.com/monster.com

-when your job is affecting your physical or mental health

-when you have passed the CPA exam and your pay is underpay

-when you got a job offer that is 20% or 30% higher than your current pay

When you feel like your opportunities for growth are limited.

When your wife bitches three times a week about you not being home more.

When you feel that major accomplishments are overlooked.

When you feel you have to convince yourself to stay.

If you go overseas, how would you pass the remaining parts? The grass is sometimes not greener. I would be patient. You may really hate it and want out, but it cannot disturb your studies. I left Big 4 for a promotion and also because I would be working non-Big 4 hours, leaving me more time to study. In hindsight I have no regrets, but I really want to get back into Big 4 now and am having trouble. Think wisely…

I used to work for a big company and everyone thought I had a great job but I hated it! I kept grinding everyday hoping that things would get better but it was miserable. I made the jump to a smaller company and easily the best career move I ever made. You gotta get in where you fit in.

Thank you all for your responses!

I know the grass is not always greener on the other side, but I'm willing to take chances. I had an interview last week for a job that pays 31% more than what I currently make, plus you get a raise when you pass all 4 sections of the exam. I think it went well. I will know if I am selected by the end of this week. I will keep you all posted.

Good luck to everyone waiting on scores!

…when your employer is no longer interested in anyone's professional growth, only in the number of hours they can put in.

…when your employer pays only what the position is worth, not what the person is worth.

…only reason you are sticking around is to get reimbursed for CPA review and exam fees.
