Saw similar threads in prior years. I shall continue the tradition.
12/24/19 – mailed complete application
12/27/19 – received by cba
1/7/20 – they cashed the $250 check
1/8/20 – received email for fingerprint authorization, completed and emailed them form same day.
Anyone else in the same boat?January 8, 2020 at 4:13 pm #2879760
I’m in the same boat only a few steps behind.
1/4 Mailed App + check via UPS
1/8 App received
Had my boss send my work experience cert directly last week. Still need to take the Ethics Exam, which I’m planning to do this weekend or next weekend. We will see how it goes.January 15, 2020 at 3:06 pm #2888556
Any updates? My check got cashed yesterday (1/14) so I’m waiting on the finger print email. Plan on taking the ethics exam this weekend. Have you done the ethics exam yet?January 15, 2020 at 8:06 pm #2889018PuppykoalaParticipant
Hi, just wondering, if I don't have enough experience yet, would I still be able to apply? Noticed that @Bigstakk mentioned that he/she hasn't done ethics exam. I'm assuming CBA accepts application even if you are short of certain materials?
I want them to validate my school credits, but they won't do it until I apply.January 15, 2020 at 10:10 pm #2889108
The instructions from the CBA website said to first send your application, check and criminal disclosure then to complete the remaining items. I assumed I didn’t need to do the ethics test first based on the order of the instructions. Haven’t received my fingerprint email yet. Planning to crank out the ethics test weekend, so hopefully it doesn’t hold up my app. Anyone know if it will?January 19, 2020 at 3:11 am #2893191
No updates for me. Yeah I finished the ethics exam a few weeks ago. Hopefully they’ll get back to me soon.February 2, 2020 at 11:13 am #2913327
Small update for me…
-received my finger print email 1/16
-did fingerprint and emailed CBA 1/16
-completed ethics exam 1/31
Any updates from you Tim?February 2, 2020 at 8:15 pm #2914323
Yes… I received a letter on 1/30 saying I need four more units of ethics…ugh. I just enrolled in two courses which will unfortunately delay my license for about 4 months. A bummer but what can you do. Cba seems to be moving at a decent pace though, so hope you get licensed soon!February 14, 2020 at 2:19 pm #2931324
Mailed in my completed application last week. Ethics passed and experience form both mailed and emailed. All application-related documents received by CBA on 2/6/2020. Still no update as of yet. Did anyone hear any updates?February 16, 2020 at 4:23 pm #2933859
I got a letter dated 2/6 saying I need 1 and 2/3 units of ethics study units. They provided the transcripts I received and for my MAcc degree it just stated total units and GPA and didn’t list out each course. I’m hoping it’s just a matter of getting my university to provide the detailed transcripts since I know I took and ethics course, audit and business law which are all qualifying courses. I just happened to take an ethics course in undergrad which they counted. Also took a religion course in undergrad which should count as well. There is no way I am missing the units. Annoyed about the hiccup but hopefully I can get it cleared up next week.February 19, 2020 at 8:03 pm #2938068MegParticipant
Here's my timeline so far:
12/23/19 – Passed Ethics Exam
01/31/20 – Mailed Application + Check via USPS
02/03/20 – Application Received
02/10/20 – Check Cashed
02/18/20 – Received Fingerprint Email
02/19/20 – Took Fingerprints & Emailed Form
Hoping the rest of the process is quick!February 21, 2020 at 4:52 am #2939922
I called the CBA on Tuesday to figure out the units and it appears they applied Ethics units to Business units and they said they would reallocate them since they can only be applied to a single category requirement, so I should be good. Only now I received the live scan email again after I already did that so hopefully they didn’t restart my app process. They confirmed receipt of my ethics exam results as well so now I’m just waiting on the final notice to pay the license fee and to get my license number. Hoping this is not a slow process to the finish line now. Going to call them again tomorrow about that live scan email I just received and to see where things are at.February 21, 2020 at 4:10 pm #2940585
Apparently everyone with an outstanding app was blasted with the same live scan email yesterday according to the CBA. App is pending legal review and then they will send me a the form to sign and send in license fee. Hoping to receive the form early next week.February 22, 2020 at 5:17 pm #2941902
I am finding limited information on the fingerprinting process of mailing in the “hardcard” physical copy versus flying to California and doing the live Scan. I fear that if I mail in the physical version it will wind up in the dark abyss that is the CBA and it will take forever. If anyone has information on this topic please share. Thank you.February 25, 2020 at 1:00 pm #2945550
I just scanned and emailed a copy to them. The live scan place will also send them a copy directly. I am pretty sure you can do this at any licensed live scan location. Good luck.February 25, 2020 at 6:50 pm #2946006
Side note- I just received my initial license fee form via email and filled it out and sent it with the $250 license fee check. FedEx'd it and it should arrive tomorrow by 3pm. Paid the extra $18 to have it get there tomorrow vs Friday with the hopes that they will send me my license # on Friday vs next week. Will keep y'all posted on timing.March 3, 2020 at 7:45 pm #2953472
License fee check cashed today (3/3/20)…waiting on email about my license # at this point.
Does anyone know how long that takes at this point?March 5, 2020 at 5:16 pm #2955218MegParticipant
I got a letter saying the CBA didn't receive one of my transcripts, even though I have a signature confirmation that it was received in November. Ugh. Just rushed them a new copy – hoping this doesn't delay the process too much. Hope you get your license number soon @Bigstakk!March 5, 2020 at 7:45 pm #2955389
As long as you respond immediately it does not appear to delay things much. Also, they do answer the phone when you call the phone number provided on the notice. I called a couple days in a row to sort out my college units and someone answered almost every time I called and they were able to sort out the issue within days. I would call and let them know once it says delivered and get them to confirm receipt over the phone and to push you in along to the next steps. Once they confirm your transcripts and units they push you on to the legal screening to review your FBI record and then sign off pretty immediately from that point and send you the license fee letter. It is now $250 (not $120) but you renew every 2 years. Good luck Meg!
My check was actually cashed on 3/2, so 3 days now but they received my signed license letter and check on at 9am on 2/26, so it has been about 9 days, so hoping I get my license tomorrow since I have done some research and seen some people get there license #s within 5-14 days of them receiving the letter. Fingers crossed.March 10, 2020 at 12:48 pm #2958920
Received my license number today. Not showing up when you search for me in the online database, but have the official email from the cba. Glad the process is officially over. Good luck to all of you and continue fighting the fight. You will succeed if you put your mind to it and stay focused.March 11, 2020 at 11:39 pm #2960462Jeff Elliott, CPAKeymaster
Congrats on getting licensed! Now the joy of CPE awaits 🙂March 14, 2020 at 12:56 pm #2961746QuoVadimusParticipant
2/22 Ethics completed
2/28 Application submitted
2/28 Experience submitted with application
3/9 $250 check cashed
3/10 Finger print email received
3/11 Fingerprint scan completed
On the fingerprint email i just received a blank email with the attachment. I got my scan at UPS and then just sent back the completed form (with UPS stamp etc.) as a reply to the email. Is this what everyone else did? And now i'm just waiting for the licence number, or is there another step?March 14, 2020 at 4:49 pm #2961896PuppykoalaParticipant
You still need to wait for CBA to confirm your fingerprint. They will then ask you to sumbit a criminal history disclosure form or whatever it is called and then evaluate your school units and then work experience form and then issue license number. I think this is what's to follow. Could be wrong. I just submitted the disclosure.March 14, 2020 at 6:41 pm #2961971QuoVadimusParticipant
I think I already sent the criminal disclosure form with my initial application. My transcripts were all sent through the foreign transcript evaluation process at the beginning of this, when i applied to sit the exams so hopefully they aren't doing that again. I guess I'll find out soon enough- i'll let you know here first!March 14, 2020 at 9:35 pm #2962058
@Quovadimus your next steps is they will confirm your educational units and if they meet each of the category requirements then they move your file along to the legal review team for final review of your federal background check. Once you clear all of that they will send you an email requesting to pay the initial license fee and sign the license form. After that it will be anywhere between 1-3 weeks before they cash your license fee check and send you a congratulatory email that your now a CPA along with your license number. As long as you don’t have any missing educational units or background check issues you should be licensed within the next 2-4 weeks. However, who knows if the Coronavirus will have CBA closures and delay this process by an unknown amount of time. Good luck!April 7, 2020 at 1:16 pm #2976614stuckintheslowlaneParticipant
I emailed the CPA board this morning to ask if they could provide a timeline for application review in light of COVID-19. A initial Licensing analyst responded and told me that they couldn't provide a timeline. Has anyone applied after 3/5/2020 and received any notification from the board regarding their application? I'm crossing my fingers in hopes that I have enough educational units and I hope that isn't causing my delay.

Did someone that applied for license in the past couple of months heard something from the CBA lately? I'm wondering if they have been processing new licenses or they stopped for the moment.May 8, 2020 at 12:12 pm #2997630
yes applied in Feb….check was cashed around Valentine's Day. I received notification my app was complete around March 2nd and just got notice last week that my application was approved. So things are still moving.May 8, 2020 at 4:19 pm #2997894TokiParticipant
That's good to hear. Thanks for sharing!May 8, 2020 at 10:10 pm #2998191jeff3861791Participant
Wow, I guess whoever processed your app was working at a much faster pace than the person who was processing my app. I applied in Jan and did not receive a letter requesting experience form correction until the end of Feb. My employer mailed out the correct form the next day and was received by CBA on 2/28. Haven't heard a word from them since.
Emailed CBA in early April and all I got was a canned response saying they are still processing apps but cannot provide with me a status update on my app because the CBA office is closed to the public.
