I need to take an accounting ethics class to be eligible for a CPA in California. Does anyone know where I can take an online class in the fastest way possible? I feel like there has to be something out there to take one class within a week or so. Would be great to take a test and pass. Cost is not a problem

You won't find anything that you can finish in a week.

A few community colleges offer the needed course, it lasts a semester and some have shorter Summer semesters. Foothill College and Santa Monica College I know of for sure, both are very difficult to get in from my experience. The classes fill up within minutes.

I am taking an 8-week long class through UCLAExtension right now. UCSD and other university “extensions” also offer the course. They are easier to get in, and you don't have to enroll and send in all your education records, like you would need to for the community college courses. However, the extension courses are a good bit more expensive ($700 for UCLA).

I spent a lot of time researching all of this as well, and failed to get into the Foothill College course for 2 semester in a row, so I really recommend the Extension courses if you can live with the price. Heres a link to the available ones for UCLA: https://www.uclaextension.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=145588

I was waitlisted for a while at the Foothill, and they added additional class due to the high demand. It was a year ago for the summer session. Or alternatively, Mission College offers online ethics class this summer and fall: https://missioncollege.edu/class_schedule/2017_summer-fall/documents/complete_schedule.pdf

I took all my accounting classes at the Mission, which is, in my opinion, a good school.

I took the accounting ethic class online at Santa Monica College. The class was really cheap. I believe it was under $100. The whole courses took about 1-2 hours per week for the homework. It was about 10 weeks long if i am not mistaken.

Thanks for the heads up on the UCLA extension. I am surprised no one has mentioned on here how extremely difficult it is to get into the Foothill class. 4 sections and all seats on wait lists taken in 6 minutes. This is my 2nd quarter trying to get in. FML.

Wow. Those ethics classes certainly do fill up fast at Foothill. Today I enrolled in a corporate tax accounting class (ACTG 68B) at Foothill. I've already taken individual tax (ACTG 67) there. I'm so annoyed how the book was only $80 on Amazon. The day after I emailed the professor asking if just the textbook would be okay, the price went up to $150.

I took mine through CSU (Colorado State) Global. It was $1500, but all online and 8 weeks. That was the quickest one I found.

Update – yes UCLA is expensive, but easy to get in obviously. UC San Diego extension has a similar set up. $695 and no books needed (they use free AICPA-provided materials). If you can get your employer to spring for it then all the better.

Question – I am taking the property transactions class at UCLA extension – so far so good. I currently have 27 credit hours, and need three more. This class is 4 credit hours, but I am curious if these are quartered hours or semester hours. This basically dictates if I need to do another class after this or not so any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

@jm27208 Unfortunately, UCLA extension uses quarter units (https://www.uclaextension.edu/pages/str/formsCredit.jsp). So you will need to convert to semester units.

Mission College in Santa Clara has a pretty good online class. Took it and it was affordable and efficient.

Does it have to be accounting ethics? Can it be business ethics?

In Texas, I my business ethics class I took for my MBA did not count. I had to take another Ethics specific for Accounting. I took an online Accounting Ethics class at Austin Community College (pre-approved by board). It was $600 and 100% online. They offer 3 sections so it does not fill up. It was very easy to enroll.
