What’s the difference between the two and how do you know which one to use? I’m assuming TS is tax section? I’m not a tax person so I thought I might ask. To me, the format looks similar.

I am a tax person and I dont know what TS it is. I just went to the AICPA sample test for REG and it only lists IRC for the options to research. I do see the TS in the drop down to select answer. But from my knowledge of the IRC I know anything out of it will be “IRCblablabla”. I have never seen TS before. Maybe it's old? But when I clicked over to authoritative lit ONLY IRC was there to search….

    Hope that helps!

STATEMENTS ON STANDARDS FOR TAX SERVICES

Make sure you get your free 6-month subscription to the AICPA Online Professional Library. Here you can practice TS for REG, all professional standards for AUD, and the FASB codification.

You will need the section ID from your NTS.

@ littlenumberrobot: I'm guessing TS is not tested on the exam? I asked one my buddies who took the REG exam already and he said he doesn't know what TS is. He mentioned that he only used IRC for the research sims.

@ jalban1324: So there are a different set of authoritative literature for TS in addition to the IRC? Still unclear to me.

@CPAski – Sorry for not answering your questions directly. TS (and its differences from IRC) make much more sense when you can see it. Browse through it when you get your AICPA Online Library access. You will need it anyway for AUD.

The AICPA Statements on Standards for Tax Services is a separate body of authoritative literature from IRC. It is enforced under the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct and focuses on tax preparers. I agree that it is less likely to pop up in a SIM than IRC, but I would not ignore it because as I have studied Becker and Wiley, I have seen a fair number of multiple choice come from this. For those using Becker – R59-63. I hope this clears it up. Good luck to all.

@ jalban1324: Makes more sense now. Thanks a bunch! Don't know why I couldn't get an answer in the REG forum.
