How are they allocated? Are we adding anything LESS of 10% of AGI? or anything between 7.5% and 10% of AGI?

A little confused about that. Thank you!

This was poorly phrased in Becker, and it's easy but many like you and I were confused on it. You add back the amount that is between 7.5% and 10% if it was someone like an elderly person who deducted using the 7.5% threshold. For individuals using the 10% threshold, there is no add back because AMT allows you to keep your deduction above the 10% threshold.

Hopefully someone else will confirm this. I passed REG in July and am going off memory.

Please if anyone can confirm my understanding, I will appreciate.

As per my understanding, Medical Expense above the 10% is an itemized deduction o AMT and the medical expense below 10% is an adjustment of AMT.

itemized deduction for medical is allowed 10% above agi. If your elderly it's 7.5%

For amt, you are allowed the medical deduction above 10% agi, meaning you do not add back. However, if you are elderly, you may have taken an itemized medical deduction above 7.5% of your agi. AMT only allows the amount above 10%. So the difference between 10% and 7.5% would be an addback when calculating amt.

This was my understanding of the material.
