I'm in that boat with you! Try UC Berkeley Extension. Not cheap, but they are good courses.

Hi! I just posted the same question! I am missing 1.5 accounting credits. I am applying for Georgia license. Which State are you applying for? My coworker recommended America Public University. I just called the school. The lady told me that their credits are well accepted in the US but she recommended me to contact the CPA board. Georgia Board of Accountancy is really hard to reach. I had never had luck of getting hold of them though. Have you tried to contact the state board?

I just replied on @cleverfairy's post, but I will post here as well. Scope out American Public University. I did my MBA online through them and it fulfilled the accreditation requirements I needed for Illinois. I took additional accounting classes to get to the 30 hour requirement Illinois has. This school is relatively cheap and the classes are 8 weeks long.

Don't you only need 30 hours of accounting (which can include one business law class)?

I would go the community college route, and they have classes online to choose from – that's how I'm doing my last 6 since I only had 18 accounting hours through my school.

LSU Distance & Learning program, UCLA Extensions, and University of Northern Alabama are all great options. I took the majority of my classes at LSU D&L program, where the credits come directly from LSU (there is no questions if those credits will be accepted or not). You can complete the class as soon as 8 weeks and will spend roughly $600, depending on the amount of tests you need to take.

This is the worst. I was under the same boat when I first started. I opted to use University of Phoenix because, 1) the class was a joke, and 2) it was only 5 weeks long. The last thing I wanted to do was sit through an entire semester at some community college.

Downside it was about $1,800 for the class. Sunk cost at this point and soooooo worth it. Also, I was able to take a credit on my tax return to offset the cost.

I am missing 12.34 credit hours. I might have to take one whole class for the .34 credits 🙁

I am looking into UNA PAPP and LSU.

If you are in Texas, check out Lone Star College. They have a lot of online classes. I few of our guys in my firm got their communications credit from them. Its relatively cheap to, being a large community college.

Thanks alot everyone. Im in New York, i went to a school in the city which is highly regarded for their accounting program, yet they just didnt offer more then thirty. Money isnt a problem, it just that between work and the studying for the cpa im worried about my time being bogged down with classes and test again. But i see i have no option, ill probably take a look into the LSU course that spsone mentioned.

The UCLA Extension program is great–$650 a class and they have a variety of accounting classes. I took International Accounting, Partnership, Ethics in Accounting, and will take Analysis of Financial Statements and Estate Planning later this year. All online and you don't have to submit your other college transcripts, which you may have to do at other colleges to prove you have taken prerequisites. I highly recommend it.

I didn't think it was possible to sit for the exam unless you had been approved by the state board. I'm worried now since my application was approved (Texas) back in 2008 but I'm just now taking my exam. How do you know if you don't have all the hours for the exam? I log into the state board and it says I am qualified with the following: 30 accounting hours, 30 business hours, 3 ethics hours, and 204 semester hours and qualified under the 2003 Act (no clue what this is). I really don't want to get to passing all 4 parts and then need to take additional classes.

When I applied for the exam I was told that I was approved to take the exam but would need 12 more semester hours of classes. I am in Florida. It was not a surprise to me that I needed more classes and it was a personal choice to stop classes to sit for the exam. Your state board should be able to tell you what you need and if they haven't given you any indication that you don't need more classes then you should be good to go. I am in Florida though. However, since you applied so many years ago you need to make sure the educational requirements for licensure haven't changed in Texas.
