I took REG and FAR in October because I had BEC expiring 10/31 and had to wait 4 months for scores due to the upgrade blah blah.

    74 REG
    71 FAR

Retook FAR and JUST found out I failed. 68. What the?! I take FAR Saturday.

I am completely fried from studying. I use Roger’s and my practice scores were really good! Ugh – I just want to quit the whole thing.

Passed AUD and BEC – BEC now expired. Had 2 tests, now I have 3. And I can’t seem to pass REG or FAR and I’m so fried!!!!! I’ve been trying to do this whole thing for 4 years. So want to give up!

Annnnnd that whole you have to wait for scores AGAIN! I retake REG 4/7 for scores 6/27 or whatever. Sooooo long!

    AUD - 77
    BEC - 84
    FAR - 81
    REG - 78

Failure doesn't feel well to anyone, so just dust off and regroup. Hang in there, keep studying and keep those fingers crossed to the rest of us in there with you.

Sorry about your struggles, but it will be so worth it once you're done! I had one failure on my journey, and it was my first test. I found that the best thing to do is to not lie to yourself. For example, I had to realize that I didn't put enough time in that I could have, and that watching videos really didn't teach me anything, my mind just wandered. So the next four exams I focused on reading the book twice and banging out questions until proficient.

I am also in the 74 club and am not sure what to make of it. What does it mean other than I didn’t pass? We have no way of knowing how many questions or which questions we needed to answer correctly to pass. The vagueness of how the exams are scored just doesn’t seem right to me. How is it that so many of us scored a freaking 74?! It doesn’t make sense statistically to me.

@Perservere- Ignoring the possibility that something fishy is going on, it seems to me that the distribution would naturally bell curve around the 75 mark. This would make 74 one of the most popular scores to get. I think there also must be some bias here since 74 is a very noteworthy score.

I think its possible to make this test in a way to pass roughly half the candidates without any nefariousness , so I don't really buy the idea they are grading the test in a way different then it states on the website.

My boss told me that in the old days they only issued 75+ and 69 and under. If you scored between a 69-74 your score was a 69. I think they did that to thwart the frustration of “barely” failing. But I think I would want to know my exact score.

    FAR 81

    AUD 83

    BEC 93

    REG 84

I admit my personality is a little too passive and happy-go-lucky (it's a Christian thing I think), but I don't think feeling angry, burned out and/or guilty are ever a good state to be in, despite their motivational value. You CAN pass studying just an hour or two a day (on my final 4th REG I was barely doing 30 mins if at all), the key for me was realizing the gaps in my knowledge and filling them in instead of mindlessly pounding MCQ's. IMHO and YMMV of course.

@Defo, thank you for sharing. I didn’t mean to imply that something fishy was up. I am trying to understand what my score means individually so that I can develop a study plan. Thank you again for your insight. It would be very helpful if the grade report we receive was issued with more insight as to why certain answers were incorrect.

@Calvinus, congrats on passing REG. How did you figure out the gaps in your knowledge?

All I'm using are old Wiley books, because I'm a cheapskate. Now the one thing about the Wiley books is that they're masters at selecting key MCQ's and examples imo. But even 1,000 per book aren't enough to cover everything, as I soon found out when I started taking the exams. So the next step was to refer to the chapter subsections corresponding to the MCQ's (because they're all grouped in same order as the notes and clearly labelled), and seeing what else I was missing. And it was a lot lol.

I hope my tips will help someone do a little better, because I've certainly been there myself. Good luck!

I passed REG, AUD in 2016. Both credits expired by end of Feb 2018. I took BEC, FAR this January, & finally I got score few days ago & I got 70, 68. I cannot imagine that I got to start all over again. I have a full time job & I have been studied for CPA exam about 2 & half. Since I studied for the exam, I lost strong relationship with my family. My husband & kid also sacrificed alot for me.
I skipped family vacations couple times for study & I came up to this far, but now, I am losing everything. I cannot believe this. Since I got scores, I could not do anything.

Plus, remember? we got to skip whole Q3 last year. AICPA had changed the exam structure, so that we got Q2 exam scores after Q3. Basically, we got to skip Q3 if we took exams in Q2. This is totally unfair.
Although we had 18month, we lost once chance right? I cannot believe that AICPA does not give us any make up.

When I read the past forums, someone mentioned that I can request “reinstate” expire credits if I pass BEC & FAR next quarter. Is that right? I am in Maine. Does anybody know about it? Please let me know & save me.

You CAN ask to reinstate credits but I think if it’s 3 months or less. Mine fell off 10/31. I don’t think they’d give me a 6 month extension.

    …or would they?!

I just took FAR again on 3/10. Failed. 72.

I’m beyond fried now! I am so frustrated. I actually felt good about this test. I feel like I got really close to 100% on the MCQ’s. I felt very confident in the material. The SIMS I had prepared for and felt I got 100% on most of them. I was actually excited when I left thinking FINALLY. The 3rd time was the charm! ONE POINT IMPROVEMENT after weeks of studying?!

…I have now failed REG twice and FAR twice and all I’ve been doing is studying and taking these since last April.

I am so discouraged. I have to do a BEC retake because it fell off. And FAR 4(4th time) and REG (3rd time) before AUD falls off in October.

@fwesley : Sorry for your disappointment but it's time to nail it down. There is nothing wrong with trying again. No we don't want to but that's the only way we'll become CPA's. So welcome back to the extended battle. And remember the rest of us STILL TRYING!!!

It’s nice to know I’m not alone. We’re all in it together. You guys are all AMAZING! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and advice – and your stories.

I’m going to sign up for NINJA for FAR and REG. Roger is great for BEC and AUD. Eeeek!
