Was certain that I failed REG. I was doing well through the MCQ and the first two SIM testlets, but I took wayyyyy to long and left myself with only 40 minutes for the last testlet. I ended up completely guessing on one SIM and I know I missed the research question. Thought I was doomed…ended up passing with a 78 and completed my CPA journey.

From my (long) experience, every time I passed a section of the exam, I felt that I had been punched in the gut and felt terrible about my performance. Every time I thought I did well (pretty much every time I took AUD) I ended up failing. No words can describe the feeling of taking these exams.

At the end of the day, just try to not worry about the score and do something else. Stick with it. It's ultimately worth it.

    I'm ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL THHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEE WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY DONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After three years of agonizing study sessions, sleepless nights, arguments with my wife, feeling like I'm missing out on and neglecting my kid, I'm finally done with this process. I have learned so much along the way. I've met great people on this forum along with learning a ton from you all as well. This is the most indescribable feeling…EVER.

Lastly, Jeff Elliott. I felt like I was in the same boat as you with a family and the close failures. You inspired me to keep going and pushing myself to the limit. I probably logged 3,000 hours on this beast, but I finally did it with your course materials to thank. Merry Effing Christmas!

The last thing I want is to burn bridges with my dad. He has helped me immensely over the years and he truly does care (even if he doesn't show it). I wanted to seek advice from others so I wouldn't make any brash decisions regarding my career or my personal relationship with my dad. It's very difficult to not have emotions get involved because he is family.

    Ne'O –
Your way with words is something to marvel (i.e. Napoleon Dipstick). That made me laugh. I try to conduct myself in the most respectful manner as possible when it comes to the other employees of the firm. I feel like I command some respect, but technically not so much. At least not yet.

    Right Brained –
Thank you. Sometimes you feel like you're the only person on the boat. I'm the only family member that works at the firm so maybe that's a good thing. I know from some lawyer/accountant friends that they say their firms have a very strict policy of having family work for family because it can cause distractions and often hurt the organization's goals and mission.

All the feedback is greatly appreciated.

    ReckedRacing-

Thanks for all of your input. Very insightful. You hit the nail on the head. I don't feel like people take me seriously and it pisses me off beyond belief. I feel like my old man doesn't take me seriously at times. Frustrating.

This idea hasn't sprung itself overnight. This has been in the back of my mind for the past year or year and a half. I feel slightly immature for even bringing this topic up, but I've been very unhappy in my current situation at times. I'm just going to have to mull it over a while longer and re-evaluate after getting my CPA.

    Ne'O-

Did your Godbrothers express any frustration or angst toward their dad over the years?

    Hi ReckedRacing-

We are a growing mid-sized soon to be large firm in a mid-sized city. We are currently going through a merger, but will have close to 50 employees after the merger. We will be in the top 20 firms in our area/city which is exciting.

We have six partners, with my dad being the managing partner. He plans to work at least another 10 years (he is 68, btw). There is a buy-sell agreement between my dad and the other partners. And you're right, I am his succession plan and that makes my blood pressure rise due to pressure. Not just because I haven't passed yet, but also because I know he is relying on me taking over one day. I see the issues and volume of clients he deals with and it is quite daunting.

My biggest goal is to pass this damn exam and maybe my perspective will change. It's hard to not look down the road and plan accordingly, though.

    @Tim

I have felt this way so many times. It's totally normal though. You have to get to the point where all you think about is this exam during every point in your day. Tying your shoes, eating a bowl of cereal, etc.

I forgot to mention earlier that I had a dream last night that I failed both of my exams. Ho-hum.

I've definitely lost a couple friends over the course of this journey. I won't really care if I pass though. Pressure is mounting at work to pass this darn thing.

Hope everyone gets the pass(es) they're looking for. There is no gadget or gift that I would want more than passing and being done with this unforgiving beast. I took AUD and REG (passed once before). If I pass both I'm done, but I don't feel supremely confident at all. My FAR expires on 2/28/18 so it will be nerve-racking if I didn't pass at least one.

Everyone in here studied their butt off. We all deserve this just for the shear fact that we are here talking about it. I know I've been replaying both exams in my head, testlet by testlet, SIM by SIM…nit-picking what I did right, but mostly what I did wrong (or what I suppose was wrong). There is nothing that can be done to change the results, just waiting for the penultimate moment of your life (or the extended lack of social life).

Good luck and Godspeed to everyone!

I failed AUD with a 71 in Q3 and retook in Q4. I felt confident going in both times and feeling about the same coming out of both exams. That alone has me really worried. I even utilized the AL more and actually found answers for SIMs versus in past attempts I wouldn't utilize it at all except for the research questions.

AUD is the only section that I've felt comfortable with yet haven't passed. I've done everything in my power to prepare. I have a horrible feeling now as well that everyone is complaining about how tough the Q4 AUD exam was. I really don't think it was harder at all. Very comparable.

I just want this pass and I'll be a CPA. I'm 17 attempts in and only have 3 passes to my name (one of which expired). I probably should throw in the towel if I don't pass this time.
