Kim is a new Another71 Facebook blogger as she documents her journey through the CPA Exam.

Third time’s a charm… I hope.

Studying for the CPA exam has brought many new experiences and now contributing to a blog will be another new first!

As a brief introduction, my name is Kim Jones, and I’m an OLDER CPA candidate. (I’m smiling as I say that.) I’m 48 years old and decided that it’s never too late to pursue a dream.

I passed the CMA and CFM exams earlier in my career and that has proven to be somewhat helpful in studying for the CPA exam, but not as much as I had hoped.

I passed BEC at the end of 2010, and I felt confident that I would be able to pass the other three parts within the 18 month timeframe. Then came the brick wall. After studying diligently and using my study materials to the fullest potential, I scored a 63 on REG in February.

I regrouped and studied diligently another 3 months and retook REG again in May and scored a 74. After a short spell of dealing with the disappointment (and I had already started studying for FAR by the way), I got the REG materials back out, added some of Jeff’s materials and ideas, got a CRAM course, and went back to work.

I’ve tailored my studying around my Candidate Performance Report. Like so many candidates, my weaknesses have been in the SIMs. The SIMs on the exam have looked so different than my study materials. But hopefully, since I’ve now been studying for REG since last December, I’ll make it over the hump when I sit again next Tuesday.

Oh, do I miss my hobbies! But I keep telling myself that this is just a short spell in life and that it will feel great to finally accomplish this goal.

Right now I just can’t wait to get into my car after the test and listen to my favorite music all the way home with no CPA tapes!

Much luck with your studies!

Kim
