Adjusting and Making Change to Study Tactics

I hope that everyone’s studies are going well.

One challenging part of studying for the CPA exam is managing the change that greets each one of us every day. There are subtle changes and there are also very big changes.

My husband returned from a year long deployment last week, and that is a huge change for our household! Along with the feelings of joy and relief also comes the challenge of all members of the family getting readjusted. (Even the dog!)

I’ve been very focused and faithful in studying during the deployment, and so I have been a little apprehensive about whether I would still get to keep the same study schedule, how I would juggle spending time with my husband and studying too, etc.

Also, as much as I enjoy cooking, I have done very little cooking and should buy stock in the company who prepares Lean Cuisines as many as I’ve eaten in the past year. I’ve even asked myself, “Do I still know how to cook?” Ha! The solution for that has been to get my husband to fire up the grill.

I’m thankful to say that all in all, things are going better than expected. The biggest challenge I’ve had is readjusting to my husband’s snoring. Night before last, my daughter could hear it all the way upstairs! Ear plugs don’t help at all.

So, when the snoring is unbearable, I reach for my iPhone and study my CPA flashcard app or study some problems that I have taken pictures of on the phone. Now we all know that we have to be creative with our studying, don’t we?

Like all of you, I am so thankful for the earlier score releases and look forward to reading the blogs of those of you who have already sat for parts during this testing window. I have scheduled another REG test date for later in November so I can make sure to give it my best shot.

When I read the information about the cumulative 2011 REG pass rate which was released last week, it was reinforcement for my decision to wait. I passed BEC last year during the 4th Quarter testing window, so I’m hoping that the 2011 4th Quarter testing window will be good to me as well!

I’d like to leave you with the following quote about change:

“Change should be a friend. It should happen by plan, not by accident.” -Philip Crosby, Business Philosopher

Have a great week.
